Would this pair well with the Massdrop X Grace Design Standard DAC?

No, because the SDAC is unbalanced and this is a balanced amp. You will be losing half the amp if you just run thge whole thing in unbalanced mode. The SDAC pairs much better with the "CTH" amp that recently came up on Massdrop. Probably one of the reasons there is now a "CTH+SDAC" drop where the whole thing is integrated together.

Is there a Dac you would recommend?

For a basic DAC it would, but this would pair best with a balanced DAC (dual xlr-3 or one xlr-4 out split to 2 xlr-3 I believe, one for left and one for right) and such a DAC will likely be more expensive.
If you aren't going for a balanced DAC I'd go for a cheaper one since most headphones are going to scale better with this AMP compared to a DAC, so get on that handles your audio file format and enjoy.

Not necessarily. Original Liquid Carbon has a phase splitter to convert unbalanced input to balanced output.

Because the amp shift splits the unbalanced inputs, it would still work and you'd be able to use the Balanced output.
