So is the Liquid Carbon X amp better than the Audio GD NFB 11.28?? I am gonna pair it with the HD6XX for home use music/gaming.
I already got the CTH and the Grace SDAC to pair it with my Fostex T-X0 for my work setup which will be used for music.

c0ldOf course not. The Audio GD does not have the Cavalli "house sound." (Whatever that is.)

c0ldThe Carbon X is a balanced amp, the NFB 11.28 is an unbalanced combo DAC and amp. They are completely different and for different purposes. You cant say one is better than the other.

EniGmA1987Yes I do understand that, I meant more on comparing the AMP part of the NFB-11.28 to the Liquid Carbon X.

c0ldIn that case, I would guestimate that the Carbon X would sound a bit better for an amp. The NFB model will pick up some of the noise from the DAC and power supply sections inside the chassis and has some compromises to meet the $300 budget of the entire unit in one. Whereas the Carbon X is a purpose built amp that has a balanced design. So it should sound cleaner.

c0ldI have the 11.28 and the synergy with the 6XX is great. Depending on the type of sound signature you like, but I wouldn't go with Carbon using warm sounding headphones. The Carbon is quite warm and laidback, paired together with 6XX which also have those characteristics, you can roughly imagine what you'll be getting.

LevvyThrow some Beyr 990s on it. Lol! Some Grados. Maybe use a more detailed dac and I think the 650s would be fine, but I haven't heard a Cavalli, so I'm speculating. Do you have any planars? My bad, 990s aren't balanced.

ElsidAmp plays a bigger role than DACs IMO. Nope, mainly using HD800S & HD6XX. I haven't found a planar worth investing in after comparing them to what I already own. The only headphones which lit a spark inside me and made a difference which I would consider a nice complement was the SR-009, but I have no plans to spend that much on any headphones though :P

c0ldIf you want to compare an amp from audio gd at this range, it should be NFB-1AMP not the one you are mentioning

gearofwar113the NFB1-AMP is a great sounding amp to be sure, I even have one myself. But that one costs almost $200 more than this amp does, so IMO they arent really in the same range. But I suppose that just has to do with what each person considers the price ranges to be.
The NFB1-AMP has a drastically better power supplly section. One thing this Cavalli amp is seriously lacking in. The switching noise will be evident for sure. And the 1-AMP also has WAY more output power. 7w (at 50ohms) vs 2.4w on the Cavalli. Overall it is a much better headphone amp, I just consider it to be in a different range than this "cheapo amp".

gearofwar113If someone send me their Carbon X then sure I will do a comparison, but Im not actually buying the Carbon X myself. I went with the CTH model because my downstairs "guest" setup uses mostly unbalanced stuff and I dont want to spend the money to upgrade it to a balanced one. My main setup that has the NFB1-AMP in it has no need of a new solid state amp when the 1-AMP is already so good. But if someone sends me one for a week then ya I will do a comparison and post it on Head-Fi or another site for people to read.
