This project has been in the works for a long time, and I'm very excited to bring it to all of you!
We've been talking about how to kick off custom products in Men's Style for most of this year, and one of the biggest challenges was finding the right brand to partner with for our first project. Allen Edmonds is a big name in the menswear scene (and for good reason), and they've been great to work with on this project from the beginning. Many of you might know Paul, the CEO of AE, from his frequent internet appearances (like his recent reddit AMA), so when I talked with him about designing a product exclusively for the online community, he was very receptive.
From there, I worked with designers at AE and members of the online menswear community to tweak existing styles and cater them to the tastes of the community. I'm very happy with the result, and I'm excited to share them with you here, for a great price.
Huge thanks to the AE team, Fok at Styleforum, and all the folks that helped me get this project off the ground. Looking forward to many more to come! I'll update my post with more important info as it comes in.

IanAndersonIs the flexibility of the oiled sole comparable to the flex sole on the Alden unlined chukkas or more like a standard leather sole? thanks

Am I losing my mind or are all these drops of random shit no-one really wants more expensive that what you can find on Nordstrom Rack? Seriously - Random junk more expensive than buying online.

Allen Edmonds is certainly not what it once was

LoL - the Surrey is a vastly different product (more casual, less versatile) and only less expensive on sale. Personally, I dislike the design. Also, if it matters to you, it's a DR-made product vs. MiUSA for the MD chukka. If you want to buy cheap mall-chukkas, feel free. The MD chukka is probably the best bang-for-the-buck AE has ever had. Pretty much everything I've seen at most Nordstrom Rack (save the big one in Seattle) aren't up to the level of this shoe - very few GYW products, inferior leathers, etc.
Hi,
I wanted to give a quick update to everyone. We’re extending this drop to the 28th of June to give more people a chance to join this drop. This extension won’t have an impact on the shipping time.

If you can't afford to have $250 collected early from your credit card by 20 something days, maybe you shouldn't be on MD. What a petty ass thing to be butt hurt about. Someone throw some pennies this guy's way.

kunalkumarHi kunalkumar, I was wondering if there was any updates on shipping? I've reached out to support with no success, and no emails have been sent. Obviously we are well past the July 25th estimate, and myself and many others would appreciate an update. Thank you for your time!

Ok Massdrop, I like your Halloween-esque suspense play. I'm going to go and bet myself 5 bucks that they come in at $280. The Dundees go for $395, the Mojaves went for $350, you typically do a 22-24% discount on shoes but this is an "incredible price" so I'm going to spot you 2 more points and throw in 1 more for good measure. That's 29% off the Dundees, I'm guessing 27% off shipped. Did I win?

Really nice execution bringing Allen Edmonds a more modern and sleek aesthetic. What does everyone recommend for waterproofing the suede?

I brannock at 9.5B, and the D fits me with just a leeeetle extra wiggle room. Normally on the 511 last (Daltons for example) 10B is perfect for me, but the extra room from the unlined nature of this shoe along with the softer suede i erred on the side of caution and stayed with 9.5, unfortunately had to go D though. It works fine for me. :)

I am dumbfounded at all the criticism from the members here. I think this run is AWESOME! I too would have loved to get the Chocolate but missed out THIS TIME. I am sure they will run it again and we can all be happy then. First World problems folks!

Heatmiser@Heatmiser Totally agree, First World problems to the highest degree! I saw a comment where a guy was "livid." Livid? That you didn't get the color boots for a good deal? Give me a break. Go to AE and buy a pair then! Keep your head up @IanAnderson

@IanAnderson I cancelled my order (for snuff), but want to express enthusiasm for another run with sufficient stock of chocolate, as well as E sizing. Nice work on the design and the pricing.

kaxixiI'm sorry I came off shittily. I'm a frequent buyer on MD and that doesn't mean I think I should have first pick but I guess it just sucked to have it sell out literally as I was about to click the "purchase" button today. I retract my initial statement and I don't mean to sound unappreciative. I guess next time I'll need to know without a doubt my size and color and order the second I see the drop appear in my email. I just hope, hope we'll see some more of the chocolate. Thanks.

Copied from my review on Styleforum:
First things first, I did not receive any type of compensation for this review. No cash, no discount, no free stuff, etc....nada; although if Ian (@brillopad) wants to buy me a beer next time I see him in SF, I can't say I'll turn it down :) Ian contacted me a few months back and was looking for my opinion on a few prototypes for an Allen Edmonds project he was working on at Massdrop. I was pretty busy at the time but it didn't seem like it would consume too much time so I said sure, why not. A couple days later, I got a few samples of an unlined chukka in reverse calf 'Janus' suede (from CF Stead) on a couple different lasts, with different styling options (heel/sole type, welt stitch thread color, etc.). Having started out with AE like many other guys here, followed by the natural SF progression to handmade shoes from the likes of Budapest and Brasov, I was pretty impressed with how the samples turned out. Not compared to the other makers I mentioned of course, but based on my experience and expectations with Allen Edmonds. Some of the sloppiness I have seen from AE in the past few years wasn't present on these pairs and the quality of the suede was well above their standard. Knowing what Ian hoped to offer a pair for, I was really excited to see how the final product turned out. So, I got my hands on the final product a couple weeks ago (just to check out) and they turned out great. Just like the samples, clean stitching all around, quality suede, and the ideal (IMO) shape for an unlined chukka. Full specs are: -511 last -Janus Calf uppers from CF stead -butyl-soaked sole -dovetail heel -unlined construction -goodyear welted I think Ian and his team nailed it when it came time to decide on the small details. I can honestly say as someone who owns (and loves) Alden's unlined chukka, these are right up there and at half the price, an incredible deal. It's a boot you can wear with denim, cords, wool trousers, etc......pretty much anything other than sweatpants or a conservative suit. Already owning a similar pair in snuff, I'm considering a chocolate pair myself.

So why the disappointment if you knew up front that they don't ship until February?

MurlsquirlI too am comparing these to my favorite shoes in my closet: Alden Unlined Chukka. Do you mind sharing more about the difference between the two - including size please. I'm a solid 8.5 D in Alden's and love them. Any advice appreciated.
Hi everyone, I've noticed some questions about whether the stitching is tonal or contrasting and I'm happy to help. The olive, chocolate and snuff color options will have contrasting stitching, whereas the navy and sand color options will have tonal stitching. I hope this clears things up!
