I understand some of the griping....yes, I too would prefer it in 40mm and yes, putting the logo on the caseback instead of the face would be far preferable...but I think you have to weight the considerable upside here.
Massdrop traded a heavier stainless steel case for lighter, stronger titanium, a thicker shatterproof glass for a thinner more scratch resistant sapphire crystal, added a day indicator, cleaned up the dial and dropped the price by nearly a third while maintaining the same quality of tritium indicators.
Watch fans love to hate on quartz movements, but they’re reliable, accurate and cheap. I had my cheap Orient mechanical dive watch regulated because I wanted a bit more accuracy and because I’m a moron. It cost around 25% of the total watch price to get it adjusted and took it out of service for more than a week. When this Ronda movement goes tits-up, you can replace the whole movement with a brand new one for about $30. No big deal.
This is not an heirloom watch. You won’t be passing this on to your children. It is, however, a really nice everyday watch for the price. the tritium markers will make it easy to read in the dark. the quartz movement will keep good time. The titanium case will be light on the wrist and considerably thinner than the ArmourLite version...and, because the battery doesn’t have to provide any illumination, you’ll get nearly 4 years of battery life. You’ll also get a unique piece that millions of other guys aren’t wearing. For $250, it seems like a pretty good deal to me if you can wait for at least 6 months....more if MD runs true to form.

drandallTitanium is lighter than steel, NOT stronger.

RotomMy understanding is that titanium is stronger than all common steel and many steel alloys while being 45% lighter. It is true that the strongest steel alloys are much stronger than titanium. The Armourlite T25 case is listed as being 316L Stainless. On paper, titanium should be stronger...but I guess it all depends on the particular titanium grade MD is using. Some numbers.... 316L stainless steel: Tensile Strength - 485 MPa Yield Strength - 170 MPa Hardness - 217 Brinell scale Titanium (Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5) Tensile Strength - 1170 MPa Yield Strength - 1100 MPa Hardness - 379 Brinell scale

drandallOne comment: If this movement ever goes bad you will probably NOT be able to replace it with the standard Rhonda movement. Reason being the hands sit on shafts that are longer than those on a standard movement. The extra length is needed to acomodate the thickness of the hands with the tubes taped unto them. Standard hands have just paint, hands with gas glass tubes are just that, round sealed thick(by comparison) for these watch hands. That is also why a super slim tritium watch doesnt exist. Thickness of the hands and clearance needed between them
