Great For The Price
I bought these at $350, as writing the review, they are back up to $450. These headphones are still worth it at $450. The build quality is unmatched. The metal finish on the ear cups and the metal supports will last for years. There is also no creaking from cheap plastic. I use the leather pads, as they were much more comfortable in my opinion. Imaging is great, as these are based off a studio headphone. Soundstage is sub-par, but pretty good for a closed back. If you want soundstage, go for the DT 1990 PRO. The sound quality is great. There is not too much bass or mids. The highs are much less pronounced than the DT 1770 PROs. These will not give you a headache. I suspect the extra padding has to do with this. This is definitely a much-needed refinement for the 1770s. The sound overall is flat, with bass being a bit pronounced and not too noticeable and the highs dipping towards the upper range. These are also only 32 ohms, so a phone could drive them if any phone now still has a headphone jack (please bring it back). Definitely good sound for the price. One thing that stands out is where these are made. These are not made in China with poor quality control, they are made in Germany. I try to avoid products made in China because of the terrible working conditions and poor QC. These headphones are also user-repairable. They will not break like bluetooth headphones or become e-waste like AirPods. These will last a long time if taken good care of. Finally, the only complaint I have is the cable. A 4-pin mini-XLR cable is a great idea because of balance setups, but the cable is near impossible to find. Hart Audio Cables makes great cables for this, and I would recommend them. Overall, an excellent value for the money. I would recommend this to anyone looking for headphones in this price range.
