USEC3@DekoniAudio makes Sheepskin and Fenestrated Sheepskin pads for your DT 1770 Pro. I haven’t tried them on the DT 1770 Pro myself, but I do have Dekoni Fenestrated Sheepskin pads for my AKG.
USEC3Also, pads from Fostex TH600/900 fit, same with round HiFiMan pads. I swapped through all of them (Dekoni) and they fit like the stock pads. Brainwavs also makes a similar size round pads and so does ZMF.
jaydunndidditYou’re making me want to try to Frankenstein some angled TH 900 pads onto a DT 1770, haha! I don’t have them though, only demo’d them at a nearby store that recently stopped carrying headphones (so they could focus on vinyl and speakers, sad for me though).
jaydunndidditI've got left over fenestrated Dekoni/Hifiman Elite Sheepskins (with that slight angle though) that might go well with these... Just swap out the ring?
zep483Yup, that's it. I actually just form the pads around the cup lip and don't even fool with the ring in the 177X. Using angled velour pads from my 4XX as I type this.
jaydunndidditnice, i put regular sheepskin on mine (4xx) in the end... calmed it down a bit... think the slight angle on the dekoni 4xx pads will matter (help or hurt)?
zep483I think the angling helps a smidgen. But, the difference is so small I don't think that part matters as much as the material. I noticed a much larger difference there, honestly. These are still intimate sounding headphones. Maybe if there is a pad that is angled and pushes the driver further away could have more impact but I don't think a pad like that exists that could work here.
zep483Pads are angled usually with the goal of matching the angle of your ears sticking out. Sometimes the pads are level but the driver inside is angled. An angle often helps improve the sense of imaging, or being able to ”see” with your ears where a sound is ”placed.”
Sonic changes due to material are smaller with fully open headphones. Angle and other aspects of shape still matter though, like a horn.
