How do you think these would be for gaming? Currently using ATH-AD700x and I like them an all but the damn things keep sliding off my head.

d0d0b0redOpen-back headphones, like your AD700X's, are much better for gaming than closed-back Beyers IMHO. Of course it's dependent on the specific headphones, but open-backs generally have a much bigger soundstage and are therefore better for positional audio found in games (footsteps coming from behind, etc.). I have both DT990 pro's and an older pair of AD700's, and the Audio-Technica's are wayyyy better for games to my ears than the Beyer's. The only thing the Beyer's do better is bass for explosions, but I play mostly competitive games where the positional audio is way more important so YMMV. One thing that might help with the fit is to tie a rubber band or hairtie between the two 'wings' of the AD700's, essentially pulling them together and creating a tighter fit.

d0d0b0redThey're actually pretty good unless you're playing competitively. They have a good amount of bass punch and impact so you feel the rumble from explosions. Mids and highs are clear as can be and really never get in the way. The highs are a bit boosted so some sound effects can sound super intense but it wasn't unbearable. The major issue is with their smaller soundstage so pinpointing exact locations could be difficult as it kinda felt like it "put you roughly in the area." So if you're playing solo, I'd highly recommend them. Something competitive online I would give pause if pinpoint accuracy of footsteps/rustling is required. I used them with The Division 2 and Assassin's Creed Odyssey so I think it covered both of these games well sans the soundstage constraints.
d0d0b0redI mostly agree with @fernandez , the biggest differentiators between the AD700 and DT 1770 headphones are the soundstage and isolation. The AD700 have a remarkable sense of space and imaging, rivaled only by (in near price range) the AKG K612, K7XX, and the (discontinued) Sony MDR-MA900. For gaming, you really get that sense of “air” and space between where the sounds are coming from, and that helps a lot with immersion and tactical awareness. I agree that the rubber band made a surprising improvement to the comfort and angle of the earpads for me, though I also worked really hard to bend the spring steel in the headband so that the pads would rest more flat against my head. Meanwhile, the Beyer DT 1770 is a closed-back headphone, with isolation like ear muffs. If you need isolation, then between these two models you should obviously get the DT 1770. However, going off the fact that you already own the AD700, something tells me you aren’t trying to play in a noisy environment. Just be aware that closed headphones sacrifice immersive realism for noise isolation, and usually add some bass (and sub bass extension). For gaming, I’d say closed headphones are only a benefit for LAN parties and tournaments. With that said, the DT 1770 might make a great complimentary addition alongside your AD700. You would have the option of closed headphones when you need it, and a friend of mine defines immersion as “filling the senses and arresting your full attention.” For him, the extra bass is more important than soundstage because bass grabs his attention more and helps him forget the real world outside his game. In that perspective, the DT 1770 would be more immersive and the better gaming choice. Even though my immersion comes from a different place than his, I can’t deny that my AD700 lacked an emotional “wanna start dancing” component that put the “fizz” (like fresh pop vs flat soda) into my music listening, and that even the cheap HD 202 I borrowed from my Panera training session was more fun to jam out with the album on repeat while washing dishes than the same Arcade Fire “Suburbs” album at home sitting with my AD700 (this was *gulp* 10 years ago). So, maybe the AD700 for Apex and PUBG, while switching to the DT 1770 for LoL, Hearthstone, RPGs, and music.
