Anyone got theirs yet?
Wanting to hear about how well they perform with the THX 789 or other amps.
I dropped *ba dum ts* out of this drop just before it ended...
I guess I'm waiting to see what the public opinion on this headphone is like.
I already knew it was similar to the 1770 Pro but... with the delay on balanced cables
and zeos chucking his pair in a yard sale... I believe these might not stick in the long run
"Estimated ship date is Sep 30, 2019 PT".
No words on whether they're on schedule either so I'm guessing It'll take some time before anyone receives it.
Doesn't necessarily mean that the headphones aren't worth the price just because he sold them in a yard sale. Looks like the guy is bathing in top quality headphones as it is.
Zeos has a very specific taste with headphones that most of the time it doesn't match mine except with stax.
In general he tends to prefer chill headphones with warm tuning, wide sound stage and relaxed detail presentation.
And I like very precise and revealing sound signature that shows everything perfections and imperfections.
In my honest opinion I think beyerdynamic makes some of the best headphones in the market regardless of price.
The dt 880, t1, amiron home and dt 1990, perfect headphones for my taste.
I believe the dt177x will complement my collection very well, I trust their tesla 2.0 drivers.
Winner of said yard sale. I believe Zeos sold his pair for 2 reasons, the first of which was he needed money for RMAF, and the second was because of the Neumann NDH20. He liked those better for monitoring, and the higher impedence allows him to use it with his OTL Tube Amps.
I actually really like the 177x Go so far. I built a balanced 2.5mm cable for it, and even without it, it's a pleasure to listen to. Lots of detail but hasn't really punished my ears yet. Did do the XL Perforated pads, but I'm eyeing the Dekoni ones now lol.
Those are my initial thoughts anyway.
Interestingly enough I do have the Neumann ndh20 and I don't think they are the best ever.
They sound too smooth and that can mask technical errors like noises, or buzzes ,hissing, etc.
yes it's great for performance tracking to a degree but they lack that deep insight that shows the quality of components used in that recording session.
I will always recommend the Adam audio sp5 as the best pro headphone and for my taste it's the best closed back headphone I ever tried/owned regardless of price, and that includes the focal Stellia .
I bought the dt177x because I'm addicted to the intense and extremely detailed sound of my tesla beyers so the transportable and closed dt177x was a no brainer for me.
Hey that’s really cool I’d love to hear more about them. But I don’t think I can do anything as I missed the window to get them at a low price on Drop and a low S/N.
Let’s see how the second drop goes and congrats on winning the yard sale
Hate to say it you nailed the zeros preferences and the 177x is all of those things...
Yea but I got beyer's pleather pads for the dt 1770 pro.
That should intensify the sound a bit and give it more focus.
Do let us know what pads you end up using :)
Yea me too I would like to hear what characteristics do each pad brings to the dt 177x.
By the way I received the tracking number for my order.
I'll be very pleased to compare these headphones with my other beyers.
I'm quite afraid that they don't sound good for me, from what I heard zeos doesn't like the Adam audio sp5 which is superior to the neumanns in their own territory.
I hope that dt 177x sounds good and he secretly didn't like it.
It is an interesting point that Zeos put his pair in the yard sale... These definitely are the best set of Beyers in my opinion. At Can Jam LA I got to hear all the Beyer models and A/B them with this set (velour pads) for about 30-45minutes (thanks to the random stranger who brought his set in and sat down next to me). I hope the final set sounds like the ones I demo'd because they were simply amazing, and would deserve a spot on anyone's wall. Does Zeos even have ANY Beyers on his wall? I also liked the 600 ohm 880 and T1... but the 177X are definitely warmer than anything else Beyer makes. I hesitate to call them neutral in character (outside the bass presentation which is definitely exaggerated), because when I heard them in comparison to other Beyer products, they sounded somewhat Dark to me overall (less than Neutral in character), but perhaps the comparison could have warped my perception a bit. Nevertheless, for those that love the Beyer peaks/sharpness, and confuse it with detail, they might be disappointed. I was was quite happy. Mine might come today (or tomorrow... they've been in town for over 24 hours... cursED FEDEX), and I'm really looking forward to it... I can't wait!
Anyone else actually got their set yet? What's the deal with the balanced cable? Is it in the box or not?
Do they take advantage of the balanced cable? seriously considering getting one from Hart.
I’m wondering this as well though I’m waiting for the Drop/Beyer cable. I’ll probably get it either way because I’ve read the amp I use is strongest when used in balanced mode, and I kinda just want to try it.
And also @bcaulf
Balanced, as per usual provides more power and to my ears (subjectively) wider soundstage, which may be the result of better separation of channels due to the discrete grounds.
Definitely prefer it balanced on the Q5s, there isn't a huge difference on the 789/SDAC-B combo to my ears though, probably because the 177X is already pretty efficient and doesn't strictly need more power.
Then again if you have balanced amplifiers/DACs, it's still nice to have the option.
Yes, that’s what I’m thinking! I’m just hoping it’s not overpriced.
If you're still interested there's a link from a review on Youtube (link is in description), and it's $50 off, good 'til Nov. 8.
Just bought mine and they'll be with me on Friday.
