Wonder when (or if) Drop plans on bringing these back? I don’t know how it works but they have been out of stock for a little while now. Maybe the sales for these weren’t as great as they expected? It doesn’t seem to get a lot of support for some reason. Hardly any discussion about it on Reddit or Head Fi. Not many YouTube reviews either.

andycherryAgreed, I think they’re being slept on. Not trying to say everyone should like them, obviously, but they do seem more obscure than I feel they should be.

bcaulfThey are an amazing pair of headphones. Unfortunately, mine has an intermittent rattle in the right ear cup and by the looks of it I will have to send them back for a refund. Drop told me that there are no replacements available. I found no way of fixing them myself. There doesn't seem to be an apparent issue when examined up close. They just work and then they stop. And then I leave them be and in 1 day they start working again. No direct access to the driver either, so I can't check for a stuck hair or some debris that may be resonating. Nothing is visible at first glance. The bad thing is that I have no idea what to get to replace them. I really enjoy the sound signature of these. :(

wooxerThat’s really kind of a bummer. Did they say they would get replacements soon? If so, perhaps you could get something cheap to hold you over like an AKG K361 or K371. If not, then...maybe the Neumann NDH 20 is a good choice?

bcaulfThey mentioned that they can't send me a replacement. That was 2 weeks ago. Since I couldn't find what's causing the rattle, I decided to return them today and asked about a replacement again. I do have other pairs of headphones. I have a Philips Fidelio X2, Fostex T-X0 and a pair of Sennheiser HD25. I had an AKG Q701 in the past, but sold them since they were not very comfortable and were not getting a lot of use. I just wanted to find a quality high-end closed-back headphone for my end-game pair. And now I have to start the search all over again.... It's very hard when you can't listen to them and have to go by reviews and comments only. I may look into the Neumann NDH 20, thanks for the suggestion! I was looking at the Massdrop x Fostex TR-X00 before, but it seems that they have a huge issue with the hinges braking.

wooxerYeah, I avoided the Fostex for that reason as well as the supposed leakage, and the huge cable. Wouldn’t be great for carrying to the office every day.

bcaulfI went to a store to listen to the Neumann NDH 20 today. I did not have the chance to play my own music, but from the start I could hear that they are much more "in your face" than the 177X. Like I had pressed them to my ears with force. Less ..... spacious. Not as comfortable either. More sibilant too. And with less bass. The 177X have very soft and pleasant bass. Not at all boomy or annoying, but it's there and you can feel it. Not my cup of tea, especially for the price. If they were half price, I would consider them and maybe even purchase them. I guess the search continues, since Drop confirmed that they can't give me a replacement. Or I'll just wait for the next Drop and hope that they will still sell for $380 instead of $450.

wooxerIt might not be ideal but maybe there are some used pairs floating around. Either way they’ll probably come back soon and at the $380 price. There’s a reason they changed it back to that price so quickly.

bcaulfWell, here they are and you were right about the price. :) I just returned mine beginning of this week. Time to get a new pair and hope for the best, I guess. :)
