Why such strange size selection? I’m US 8.5D-9D or UK 7.5D-8D (depending on the last). It’s a fairly common size, but not available in this drop?

I have another pair of Carmina shoes in the Rain last in size UK 7.5E. I am quite confused how that translates to the US D, EE, EEE system? Since normally to my understanding the next width up from E is F, then G

From my understanding, the standard width for Carmina is EE, followed by the wide EEE and the narrow D. Based on the description, if you're a C (Narrow), D (Standard), and E (Wide), then you have the option to choose your width accordingly at checkout. However, if you have extremely narrow or wide foot then these would probably not fit you. Everyone's foot is different so your mileage may vary.

This is not correct for this drop. Please read the details on size. Carmina E, EE, EEE are US C, D, and E widths. They do run a little generous based on my own pair. Standard Rain is a D, but they refer to it as EE. I know it’s confusing but they do spell it out in the description and I do own a pair to confirm.

I actually purchased a pair of Carmina wholecut oxfords from Baltzar for $350 a few weeks ago. I was a bit hesitant since I've never heard of the site and the price seemed a bit too good to be true, but they arrived quickly and in perfect condition so I'm happy I took the chance!

Factoring in shipping and final sale for Canada, the Rake has Carmina at 495 CAD a pair with free shipping and free return. You'll get the shoes trees here but that's not worth it if it's final sale. Just saying.

Okay, I have to ask as I had such an appalling failed drop with a J. Fitzpatrick drop a few months ago. Shipping date suggests these are already made and in MD’s warehouse. My question is... are these shoes returned stock from the previous drop a year ago (look down the comment section, massive sizing errors) where they’ve been sitting in the warehouse all this time and are simply being re-distributed to new customers? In which case the shoes would not be in new condition due to their original owners handling and trying them on. Clarification would be great as I have had big issues with MD’s inconsistent trade practises. I am indeed interested in this drop but will not commit till I know these aren’t recycled stock. Thanks in advance. K.

Yes! I’ve gotten my pair and apart from the box being a little torn, everything was packaged nicely and shoes appeared to be unworn and crease free. Nothing to complain about! In fact they came in JUST in time for a big event the following night. Very happy with them. 👍👍

These are beautiful, but for black oxfords I really prefer the no-brogueing style (just a simple captoe). The brogueing brings the formality down a little, and makes the shoes not quite suitable for certain formal events (black tie, funeral, etc). I'll definitely buy them if Massdrop can come up with a no-brogueing version.

Okay. I got my shoes today (although there was a shipping snafu as I couldn't update my address in time and it got shipped to an old address). The shoe box is damaged, but besides that, everything's there, the right size, and in good shape. Got nothing to complain about now.
I don't know who's eating the cost of the mistake--Massdrop or Carmina or both--but I'm more than satisfied with the results and the way they handled this. Thanks all.

Updated January 31: Hi Everyone,
The Massdrop x Carmina Semi-Brogue Oxfords have arrived at the warehouse and the team is wrapping up quality control checks. There was a slight delay in the delivery of the shoes, and we now expect the replacement pairs to ship by the end of this week (February 2).
We apologize for this slight delay, and can assure you we are doing our best to get the replacement pairs sent as soon as possible!
Updated January 29: Hi Everyone, The second production of the Massdrop x Carmina Semi-Brogue Oxfords has arrived at the warehouse, and is currently going through the quality control check process. If all goes well, we expect to ship the shoes by January 31. We’ll update everyone in a few days with the status of the quality control check and the shipment. Reminder that all drop participants are able to receive either a full refund, or receive a replacement pair from Carmina. Thank you to everyone who has already written in with their preference. If you requested a replacement pair, please make sure your delivery address has not changed since the last drop. If you need to update your delivery address please contact community support via your transactions page: https://www.massdrop.com/transactions
If you haven’t reached out to community support yet, please let us know if you prefer a refund or replacement so that we can best assist you.
Updated January 18: Hi Everyone,
We have an update on the second production of the Massdrop x Carmina Semi-Brogue Oxford. The shoes are currently in transit to our warehouse from Spain, and once they arrive they will go through the receiving and quality control check process. We wanted to give everyone a heads up that the timeline will be tight, and we’ll be cutting it close for all units to ship on January 31.
We are still aiming to have all units ship on January 31, and we’re working with the warehouse to prioritize this. We apologize for this potential slight delay, and we’ll provide an update on January 29 with the current shipping status.

Update Oct 23: Hi All, we just got off the phone with Carmina and wanted to provide an update on the sizing problem. As mentioned in the previous email, the shoes were mislabeled in UK sizes instead of the specified US sizes. All drop participants are able to receive either a full refund or can wait to receive a replacement pair of shoes from Carmina. You will not need to return the shoes you have already received. The replacements will be prioritized by Carmina, but given they are handmade will still take some time. We will follow-up as soon as we have confirmation on a timeframe from Carmina.
To request either a full refund or request receiving a new pair of shoes, please go to the transactions page and reach out to support with what you would like. (If you have already submitted a request, you don’t need to do send a new one)
https://www.massdrop.com/transactions In either case, you can keep the shoes that have been sent to you. Some users have written in asking to swap shoes with someone else in the drop, and we’ve created a post where you can connect with others in the drop here:
https://www.massdrop.com/talk/2551/massdrop-x-carmina-semi-brogue-oxford-size-swap-thread Again, we want to apologize for the issue with sizing on this drop and for the huge letdown it represents. It is clearly not the situation anyone wanted to be in, and we’ll be doing what we can to make it right. Carmina's being a great partner helping work through this process with us, and we'll provide an update for timing for the option to get a new pair of shoes as soon as we can.
----- Hi Everyone, thanks for reporting these sizing issues. We've reached out to Carmina, but they’re a day ahead and generally unresponsive over the weekend. We're trying to schedule a call late Sunday night our time, their Monday morning to discuss this situation ASAP.
As many of you have suggested, it appears these shoes were labeled in UK sizes instead of US sizes as we specified. This means pending our discussion with Carmina, the solution will likely be that we'll provide prepaid return labels and redistribute the sizes. Due to the combination of widths and lengths, there will likely be a number of orders that can't be fulfilled with the units in this shipment. Because of that, a key part of our discussion with Carmina will be around them producing additional units to fulfill those orders on a condensed production schedule.
We will be monitoring this discussion, but if you have an issue, please write into our support team by clicking “contact support” via the Carmina transaction on your My Transactions page. The more of you that do that, the more we have to show Carmina when we talk with them. Overall, Carmina has been great to work with (especially related to sizing as a topic) and I’m sure we can work together to find the fastest and most complete solution possible.
This experience is not representative of what you should expect from a Massdrop collaboration and we’ll be working with Carmina to make it right for everyone in this drop.
We’ll be sending this as an email to everyone in the drop, but thanks again for your quick reporting in this discussion and please write in to support (via your transactions page) so we can verify the extent of the issue in time for our discussion with Carmina.

I didn't participate in this drop but have been following it all these months and am glad Massdrop is addressing the problem, but between this drop and the Puro sneaker drop, which I did participate in, I'm starting to not entirely believe "This experience is not representative of what you should expect from a Massdrop collaboration," when it comes to shoe collaborations.

What exactly was the QC process checking for? Wrong sizes, wrong trees, fire that QC guy! You could have avoided a big part of this problem had you recognized the problem in QC and adjusted the sizes when you shipped. It wouldn't have been that hard and everyone would have understood.

While we didn't get the shoes we ordered, we also didn't receive the shoe trees that we were expecting; or at least I didn't. The initial terms were for beechwood trees, but I received cedar. Of course, this is not nearly the problem that non-fitting shoes is; but still you open yourselves up to further problems if you don't either ship beechwood trees or advise that the drop will now include cedar trees. I applaud your resolution to the size problem and I feel as if I'm doing you a favor by bringing the other issue to your attention now. I can see someone trying to wring further price concessions from you if they don't receive the right trees.

Updated 10/11 Hi Everyone - The shoes have made it through quality control and we are now preparing the Carminas for shipment! We are on track to ship by 10/20. Thanks again for patience with this drop - we’re looking forward to you all receiving your shoes and seeing your pics of them.

UPDATE 10/6: Hi All -
We have a quick update for everyone. The shoes have arrived at our warehouse and we are beginning the quality control check process. There was a slight delay in customs, as well as a delay during the receiving process due to ambiguous size labeling. As of now we are on track to start shipping out on 10/20.
The team is doing everything they can to get the shoes shipped out by 10/20, and we’ll provide an update once quality control check is complete.
In the meantime, there are some pics from the warehouse:

UPDATE 9/26:
Hey all -
The shoes are on track to hit our warehouse this week from Spain, and thus we are still expecting to fall into the 2-4 week delay period for them to get shipped out (10/6-10/20) with the team expecting for things to start shipping around the middle of that period.
The main next steps are going to be getting through customs and to our warehouse and then receiving (quality control check). As long as no issues come up in those two steps we'll land in the above range.
There have also been a couple requests for pictures. We unfortunately haven't gotten any from Carmina to share yet, but I'll follow-up if we do get them - and if not, we'll aim to get some from the warehouse later this week or early next.
Next update on or by: 10/6
------ Hey all - I wanted to provide an (overdue) update. There was a delay in shipment to our warehouse, and currently the shoes are being ferried from the island where they were made to mainland Spain for air shipment to Massdrop. This is resulting in an estimated delay of 2-4 weeks - unfortunately, we won’t have a better grasp for a few days on how long the delay will be until the shipment actually gets off the boat. We’ll let you know once we have more concrete information. I’m sorry for the delay in shipping time, but even more sorry for the lack of communication leading up to this delay. Delays happen (sometimes from things outside of our control, sometimes due to processes we can improve), but it’s up to us to be communicative, transparent, and consistent in providing you with updates - and we failed on all 3 fronts here. We should have gotten you this update earlier. I’m personally working on updating our communications process, and will be working with our logistics team to make sure we give consistent updates on this drop and future drops. Thanks for the patience. Next update on or by: 9/26
