Looks a good spacious 1 person tent just a shame It doesn’t have a 10 inch bathtub floor like my Yama Swiftline 2. Be a good upgrade on next batch run.
Fox160The way I see it, the Swiftline needs the 10" bathtub floor because the fly doesn't come all the way to the ground. So the tall bathtub floor is your only protection against winds, blowing snow, rain splatter etc:

Whereas the X-Mid has a fly with full coverage. So the fly acts as this barrier, which has the benefit of keeping you warmer and your gear in the vestibules a lot more protected from rain/snow. I see this as a better approach.

The strategy of chopping the fly so that it doesn't come all the way to the ground and then increasing the height of the bathtub floor to make that up, is a way to save weight because the circumference of the inner is less than the circumference of the fly, but it comes with performance downsides (more breezy, more confined feel, vestibule gear can get wet, snow blows into vestibules). Even with a tall bathtub, you're going to feel more wind in the Swiftline than the X-Mid. So I like a full coverage fly, particularly one that you can still pitch the fly elevated if you want via longer cord at the corners.
Aside from the arguments for an entirely solid fabric fly (warmer, even less breeze) I don't see a functional advantage to having a taller bathtub floor. It would give the tent a more confined feel. What are your reasons for wanting a taller bathtub? Are they ones that a full coverage fly addresses?
dandurstonHi Dan
should have said I am in the UK and weather including wind can change many times through the day and eve and night , I hear what you are saying just that when I leave a porch/door open I don’t feel a breeze hitting me in the face and would like this shelter for myself.
Fox160Fair enough that a higher bathtub would stop breezes when the doors are open. Would you like a full solid fabric inner? I like those in the winter, but perhaps you still want some mesh.
dandurstonIf the solid inner is ever available (yes please!!), it would be nice to buy this alone, having joined the Massdrop for the X-Mid. Looking forward to receiving the shelter next May.
SiLondonThanks for the support. I hope we can do a solid inner in future productions runs, and if so, it would be nice to offer the solid inner alone. I'll keep it in mind and see what we can do.
dandurstonRe. posts further up - I think a solid fabric sides and top with no-see-um nearer the top for viewing the horrible UK weather scene when at seated height.
dandurstonI'm in the drop. If a 'winter' inner with mostly fabric and some sections of mesh in the upper doors was offered later as an additional accessory I'd 100% buy it.
DsandsThe upcoming X-Mid 2P will have a solid inner. Assuming this is sufficiently popular, future runs of the 1P will have a solid inner option as well, so I expect we will be also able to offer these separately. We found a really nice fabric for the inner that is hardy heavier than mesh. It adds about 0.5oz / 14 grams.
