gelizagaNot really, no. Go look at the measurements of the two overlaid at SBAF: http://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/massdrop-x-e-mu-purpleheart-measurements.3539/
Not all that similar. These are a little more even overall, but the THX00 will be a bit more detailed and slightly brighter sounding with worse bass extension.

HeeftyYou're comparing it to the purpleheart thx00, im talking about the mahogany thx00. Sure it does have a tigher, punchier midbass and recessed treble but overall sounds almost identical. I don't recall the thx00 being that detailed. sorry for bad english

gelizagaI think the drivers will make more difference than the material used in the ear cups on the sound. I do not believe that simply changing the wood would make the THX00 sound like these will.

Heeftyyup, but the measurement between the purpleheart and mahogany differs but the mahogany thx00 and emu purpleheart(CAL!) is identical for some reason.

gelizagaThe drivers are very different compared to the TH-X00, even though they are made in the same factory using the same materials. The TH-X00 has 50 mm drivers, so lower bass extension is possible and longer xmass which translates to more SPL being possible. In essence if you test them side by side the TH-x00 will have better low end if properly amplified and a much wider sound stage, closer to that of an open back phone compared to the smaller driver and smaller enclosure of this E-MU. As far as the wooden cups making a difference, it definitely does. Just like the Foxtex TH-X00 sound different than the Denon AH-D2000. Thin plastic will have a "ringing" sound on certain notes/frequencies that wood will not have, since wood transfers less vibration than plastic does.

HeeftyThere are smaller drivers that sounds WAY better than the 50mm biocellulose driver that foster makes.

gelizagaPerhaps you interpreted different as better. That's not at all what I'm saying. Just that a different driver is going to sound different. Doesn't seem like a controversial statement to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

gelizagaThat's interesting, are you here just to spew vomit on the conversation, or do you have something of value to say? I'm aware "bigger drivers don't make the headphone," bigger drivers don't automatically sound better, I never said that. They do however have more potential SPL, because larger drivers move more air. I own the Denon AH-D2000, D7000, Fostex TH-610, Aurvana Live, and E-MU Walnut. I think I know what Fostex Bio drivers sound like, thank you. That being said my comment above is still accurate. I'm well aware driver size doesn't automatically translate to any specific variable, unless they are identical specs aside from the size. If I had said SQ instead of SPL, you may have had a point.

gelizagaSorry, I just think it's hilarious you're trying to argue the type of wood used on the headphone cup, is going to make a bigger difference than driver size. Since that seems to be your point.

Numbers on paper are just that - numbers. Just because something measures similarly doesn't mean it'll sound the same. A Bose speaker might measure the same as a Magico or a Magnepan, but I can assure you the two will sound nothing alike. Also, the enclosure plays a huge part in how a speaker (or headphone) sounds. Lastly, it stands to reason that there are different grades of biocellulose drivers and the difference between the driver in these and the X00 is probably more than just 10mm. Just because the drivers share the same cone material doesn't mean the rest of the driver is the same.

gelizagaDB measurements have nothing to do with sound quality, only loudness at certain frequencies, sorry to break it to ya.
