Folks: is the "pass" out a variable output? That is, does this also work as a preamp?. And what is the power output? Had anyone tried it with Audeze LCD 2C Plannars? Thanks.
I think on sbaf I remember reading that the massdrop cth tube would be better for audeze headphones, and that the zdt works better for more efficient planars and dynamics. This is just what I read, though; I haven’t tried this amp myself (though one is scheduled to arrive sometime early this coming week)
The "pass" is a passthrough. No preamp functionality.
NOOOOOO. Don't use a tube amp with the 2C. Just don't. And there is no pre amp here.
Now that you got it what do you think?
Thanks for following up! Yeah, it sounds great with the dynamic drivers I have (verite closed, focal clear, grado hf-3) and efficient planars (pmx2). Great soundstage layering and depth, with pretty good dynamics too. That said, I don't use mine anymore actually, preferring the Asgard 3 to it overall. I plan on selling the ZDT Jr soon.
No its like a technology issue. Planar magnetics are just too low impedance you get all kinds of weirdness. Ive had buzzing that wouldn't be there on a high impedance like 6XX etc, or it just won't sound right, etc. I've been told it has something to do with voltage vs. amperage, but I'm not sure I understand the science behind it well enough to explain it that way.
