Mine works a lot better once i switched 6N24P with an ECC89. ECC89 is much cleaner tube when it comes to noise or microphonics at a cost of slightly lower amplification but this amp has ton of power so now instead of being under 25% i am at 35%on the volume knob
BTW i have the original one with humming which goes down with this tube as well
That is rather good to hear. I've got 30 6FC7/ECC89 with Pro/Comm UK markings on the way. I could totally live with less power tube hum.
I am using the procomm tubes as well
Wow, yeah. That was a freaking night and day difference in the levels of power hum. Now my ZDT is able to drive my Meze 99 Noir without me raging at the noise.
Could you link the volume knob?
Perhaps a dumb question, but I don't want to damage my amp: how did you get the original knob off? The replacement looks really good, I'm hoping to get that too.
You need to loosen up that screw
Thanks! I somehow have never noticed that screw.
Anybody have any extra ECC89 tubes they would be willing to part with (I'd ideally like to buy 2 pairs, one for now and one for spare)? I've been looking all over the internet for them and can't find anything other than the Mullard ones that cost quite a bit (and they're all shipped from EUR so the cost of shipping is also crazy).
