I really am struggling with a decision to join this drop. I really do not mind spending the money--it is just the apprehension of the quality of the iem. I know Empire Ears has a sterling reputation and the quality will be outstanding...but still. Is there a better IEM for the money--as always personal sound preference is key. I have spent over 20 thousand dollars on audio equipment the past two years---buying, reselling, upgrading, downgrading...blah blah blah...full size headphones, IEM's, amps, dacs I get an IEM and just grow disappointed or too critical--always thinking.." Could I sell this and buy something else?" I guess I should join a support group to address my serious audio equipment obsession.

scottsaysThats normal, should have a closed group for internal swapping of iems which have the same price range. Then we will forever have different sound signature to sample. Then we will not spend "disappointment"money

TechnologyGodExactly! It would be great to be able to swap equipment and really experience them for a bit. I cannot even remember how many headphones/iem I have bought, sold, upgraded, downgraded blah blah blah. I have peculiar ear canals i guess--because the comfort and fit have always been the issue. Just should go custom obviously....but what model? Would love to join that group==Ear Swap site--

scottsaysHi there! I am in the same place here. I am struggling to make the decision and not because of the price but because of the quality of iem. I have Noble Encore and by spending the money I know I am getting quality product not cheap plastic shell and who knows what sound EE Zeus provide. Yesturday I emailed EE regarding resheling question EE emailed me back saying that they do not provide any service as such for this drop. They won't be able to move it to custom or better quality aluminum shell. This makes me think even harder as why wouldn't they do that? I know all companies of that size should provide such services i.e. Noble Audio, Westone, Campfire Audio etc. So, I can not reshell it later, I don't know any reviews of the sound of this iem, there is no way to make custom version plus I have to wait 6 months before its here :(

VAS007I understand--I had the Noble Encore but sold mine. I had the universal model and emailed them asking if it could be reshelled for a custom one--they said no. Great sound quality---just sold because I did not use them enough to justify the high cost--same thing with Focal Utopia. Sold them as well--- I am in a constant debate over spend huge amount on a headphone---for totl or get bargain price for something that is excellent but not 2 thousand dollars-- I should just stop looking at all the drops---it drives you crazy. I just want to enjoy my music and not always be searching for the next big or best thing. I think my money would be better spent on therapy to get my head right...lol

scottsaysFrom my past experience I was pleasantly surprised when I heard CampFire Andromeda I think it was even than ten driver Encore. Andromeda have that rich, clear and stellar sound hard to forget. I am waiting/hoping one day it would appear here on MD and not in plastic shell with $0.99 carrying case ;)

VAS007Agreed, I absolutely LOVE my Campfire Audio Andromeda and Dorado IEM's. The Andromedas are great for when you want a more detailed and spacious sound, and the Dorado's are great for a more focused and fun sounding IEM experience with a little bit more bass/low-end. They're also made out of METAL, and not some cheap plastic. I was really liking my Westone UM Pro 30 IEM's, but ALL of the Westone IEM's are also made of plastic and I wanted something MUCH more durable and rugged since they'd be my daily Drivers.
I bought the Andromedas and Dorado's and haven't looked back. I'll NEVER spend this much money on a cheaper plastic shell and with such pathetic accessories like the lovely case that comes with these LoL 😁
That said, if they sound great, you can buy a Westone Mini Monitor Vault or a Pelican Micro 1010/1015 case for around $20 and throw away the junky looking case that comes with these. But I'd never recommend getting a pair of plastic shelled IEM's for daily Drivers unless you aren't listening or using them very often and have the time and OCD to keep them in incredible shape, which you should be doing with any TOTL or more budget friendly IEM's, regardless of their price.
Consider me OUT of this drop because of the crappy plastic quality, the even cheaper accessories, the COMPLETE mystery of their sound, and the almost 6 months wait time.
If you want some real and long lasting TOTL IEM's, buy something with a METAL shell and with nicer accessories IMO 😎👍🎧

VAS007Yep, the basic-looking shell and subpar accessories were the deal breakers for me. What should have been a mouthwatering drop with a former flagship product has been unfortunately undermined by the decision to case it in a plastic shell that A) takes away from the premium feel, even if it is as sturdy as the organizers say, and B) sports a paint job that looks like it will chip away at the slightest provocation.

switchstyle123Hi, I am fairly new to this. How are the accessories different? Will the fact that the shell is made of plastic impact on the audio quality at all?

switchstyle123You know the things is I want that someone confirms that in this drop EE uses Knowles BA and their product numbers. I also mentioned that EE won't reshel it to the better casing or custom. Why? I have no idea really. I think they sell custom Zeus XR so should it hard to provide the same service for this drop. It's not like we don't pay fare price here...:(

CheX07I don't think the shell materials should affect the audio quality, but I just feel that the looks and finish can be improved upon, considering that this is basically a $1K product. Other IEMs in the same price range, such as the Campfire Audio ones that people have been posting pictures of in this thread, use vastly better materials that look and (probably) last better over time.

scottsaysAt the going prices for therapy, spending time and money on Massdrop may actually be cheaper... and, if you have a creative tax preparer might be written off as psychoacoustic therapy... :-)
