Received my regular-regular quilt a few days after ordering. The first thing I did was weigh it, and it came in at 22.5 ounces, right on the spec of 22.1 ounces. The quilt is packed, I assume, at the factory in its stuff sack, there is no large cotton storage bag included. When compressed like this since manufacture, the down takes a while to decompress, and mine took around a day to fully come up to loft. Once decompressed it lofted up to, and slightly higher than, the 2.5 inch spec with all chambers fully and evenly filled. I have a USA made Revelation and I compared the quality of workmanship to the Massdrop product and it’s comparable to the quilt made in Winona. The only minor difference is the shell on the Chinese quilt shows wrinkles, probably due to the fact it was compressed for a long period of time. My only suggestion to Massdrop is to instruct the factory to store in a larger bag, and possibly include

a cotton storage bag.

So far, very happy with the quilt, exactly as described. I did have to fluff up the quilt in the dryer with some tennis balls but the result was excellent. I have ordered an actual EE quilt so I will be able to compare later when it arrives, but I don't expect any major differences. I love quilts, but I'm a recent convert; why it has taken me so long I do not know.? I am a very active sleeper and hate the restriction of mummy sleeping bags and the weight of less constricting bags.

OK, received the EE quilt so here are my thoughts. As to build quality I don't see any obvious differences. The 'feel' of the EE quilt outer material seems slightly softer to the touch; this may be related to the different colour I chose or could be utterly subjective. Similarly, it also feels slightly more lofted even though the rating on the EE is 30 degree rating vs 20 degree on the Massdrop one. Held to the light the two are similar. Notably I did not have to put the EE through the drier to loft it up and distribute the down; this was probably down (sorry) to the amount of time the Massdrop one will have been compressed since the EE was made to order. Bottom line, I'm happy with both, but will be slightly more cautious when using the Massdrop for the first time when the temperature rating limits of the bag are being tested in the field.

I love my quilt! Lofts tremendously and keeps me warm when used as directed. My only gripe is that the stuff sack could be a lot smaller. This thing packs down really well! Reading the feedback from other customers, I am disappointed to hear that EE won't be honoring the 'Limited Lifetime Warranty" as was explicitly stated in the drop. This is a big concern for any piece of high quality outdoor gear. I strongly encourage Massdrop to get this sorted out as this may be considered false advertising.

So far, I have only been able to test this item on a few cold camping trips. I used it in Joshua tree for two nights. It got down to 36F (2C) the first night and 43F (6C) the second night. I run a bit warm, but I wore a long sleeve base layer, a long pant base layer, and fleece pants. The pants base layer was more for insulation in the morning when I have to get up rather than when i'm sleeping, and I even took off my socks because i was a little too warm. Because it is a quilt and my head would otherwise be unprotected from the cold, I also had a Goosefeet Gear Down Balaclava (double fill). The first night, I was a little cold but it was from inexperience sleeping with a quilt. I was using the included straps which, because i was sleeping on a two person sleep pad, created some gaps for cold drafts. After removing the straps and clipping the bag up, I slept very well. The quilt does a great job. I also used it on another camping trip to Boulder Basin Campground in Idyllwild, CA. I believe it got down to the mid 30'sF (~2C). I used this in tandem with the aforementioned balaclava and a Klymit Insulated Hammock V and slept very well. The quilt did a fantastic job keeping me warm and, this trip, the pad strap and the other elastic strap preformed as designed. When I received my quilt, I had some concerns; the fill doesn't seem that great and the distribution of feathers was a bit worrisome. After unpacking, shaking it out, and letting it loft, the quilt filled out nicely. I checked the weight and it is slightly heavier than the specs say, but that means I have a little extra down which I don't mind. The quilt comes with sleeping pad straps and a small stuff sack. I had to find another bag for storage, but I already had an extra so that's not a big deal to me. In the winter I store the quilt open and on my bed. (I use it as a regular blanket sometimes because I don't want to buy another blanket). edit: I am 5'6" about 165lbs, and i have the 20F version, regular size, regular width.

under filled to the point of being defective.

And the standard 20degree revelation i ordered from EE directly after receiving the above, because the above looked WAY underfilled: Suspicion confirmed :(

The pictures actually don't show how different it looks and feels in person.
Laid on a bed the stock EE version looks normal, full-baffles. The Massdrop version looks, flat?

foobar5Instead of underfilled which sounds caustic and a bit accusitory, would you say this is a 30 degree bag instead?

jottoh12I suppose on some level, yes obviously a quilt with less down will be just a higher temperature rating... But I still wouldn't phrase it like that here.
This is really an underfilled 20deg bag. Underfill means large, less-insulating air pockets, and uneven loft as the down can shift;as well as unnecessarily tall baffles.
All of those just make for an even LESS efficient bag than the ounces of down would imply.
All that asside from the whole false advertising bit.

The loft on the quilt is not the 2 1/2 inches that is needed to get a 20 degree rating (per Enlightened Equipment website). Rather, I measure the loft at 1 3/4 inches. This is not nearly enough down to merit the claimed rating. Based on Enlightened Equipment's own website, 1 3/4 inches of loft would merit a temperature rating right between 30 and 40 degrees. In other words, their website says this should be rated at about 35 degrees. I have another Enlightened Equipment Revelation 20 degree quilt, and I layed the two side by side for comparison. This one looks flat and half-filled compared with that one.

Kjf27Odd, I have another 20 degree and this has the exact same loft as that one. Maybe quality control issues? Not sure. Mine is perfect though.

A beautiful, light weight bag that compresses very well. However, a significant design flaw forces me to reluctantly pan this sleeping bag.
One can note by the picture that the feather baffles are singular and long. Nothing prevents the down from spreading too thin, thereby not providing the insulation required to keep one warm at 20 nor even 30 degrees.
I was backpacking in Colorado last week at elevations as high as 9,000 feet. Temperatures reached down to the 20s and 30s and the bag did not do its job well. An inspection of the bag the first morning after it did not perform properly yielded my observation of the fluid downward flow of the insulating down.
Prior to sleeping the second night I redistributed the feathers equally along the baffles. I thought I licked the problem. It didn't work for I woke up several times from the freezing cold, needing to redistribute the down again and again.
I am sorry to report this. This simple problem could have been easily avoided if truncated baffles had been provided.
(Accompanying picture is after fluffing.)

GerryLI agree with your points regarding the migrating down; it can be annoying; mine migrated off my chest down towards the toes... just the center, the down in the sides stayed in place. I haven’t noticed the same problem once weather cooled and I added the bivy into the equation. The bivy and this quilt are my trusted-goto.

This quilt is completely under filled. The fact that they call this a 20 degree quilt and EE puts their name on this is bad. I should have read comments and not wasted 220 dollars.

The sleeping bag does not meet its advertised 20 deg rating. Despite comments validating this observation, I gave the sleeping bag the benefit of the doubt, allowing it plenty of time to loft without any compression. As you can see in the images, the down filling is still woefully inadequate, with large spaces unfilled and visibly flat baffles (these should be rounded if properly filled). It is a dangerous to falsely advertise a key piece of survival gear like this as people can be injured/endangered by hypothermia if used at the suggested 20 deg setting. I've asked to return this.

JsherbHello from the Enlightened Equipment team! Unfortunately, this particular view of the quilt only gives us a small amount of information. In most cases when areas of the quilt contain less down it's an indicator that the down has either migrated or is distributed improperly. In both cases the down will appear to have uneven loft. Luckily there are a few simple steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue without the hassle of an immediate return.
1. Weigh the quilt on an ounce scale. Confirm the weight matches the listed weight on the drop. This will tell you if the quilt has the proper down volume. If the weight is correct to within .5 ounce, the standard variance, then the down has likely migrated. This can be repaired by following the down distribution instructions here: https://support.enlightenedequipment.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000806887-Distributing-Down The entire process only takes a few minutes.
2. If you find the weight to be outside the .5oz variance on the low side, please follow up with us.
We hope you find that the down can be distributed back to a normal loft and you have the opportunity to perform a thorough test in the elements with this quilt.

teamEnlightenedEquipmentI also have the same issue with mine and have concerns. I weighed mine and it comes in at 21.2 ounces (2 different scales) which is nearly an ounce short for the reg/reg. How can we rectify this?

Should have 2 to 2.5 inches of loft but doesn't in areas (down distribution problems). Was cold at temperatures above 30 degrees. Massdrop accomodated my return and had excellent service. It may take them a day or two to respond.
