Hello Everyone,
All the Revelation quilts shipped in mid-December and we’re excited to learn about how you’ll be using your quilt in upcoming adventures! Please be sure to share your pictures and stories in this Discussion.
Thank you to everyone who already posted after you received your quilts. Three questions have surfaced since members started receiving their quilts and we would like to address them here.
1) The quilts weigh less than what is listed in the Specs. Great news! We were conservative with stating the weight of the quilt, and it turns out that the fabric and baffles are a little lighter than we estimated, so the quilt is even lighter than anticipated. The weight savings was not from skimping on down fill, as some have suggested. The quilts have the full amount of down that was specified in the product page, which is the same density, according to the same formula, that EE uses on all of their Revelations.
2) There is a horizontal seam near the leg area of some quilts, but not all. True - this is normal and should be expected for all Regular/Wide and Long/Wide quilts. The widest quilt from one width of fabric is about 54", so to make a quilt that is wider requires sewing two fabric pieces together. This is true of all Revelations, regardless of origin, and also true on all wide quilts from other manufacturers.
3) It appears that the down in the middle chambers isn’t lofting as high as it should, especially compared with the outer-most chamber. There are a few things at play here. Most importantly, the quilts need a full day to loft back up and may benefit from some shaking to help the feathers bounce back and re-distribute. Still, once that is done, the outer-most baffle will always look more fully stuffed because the outer edge is sewn down to the width of fabric rather than the 1.5" baffle that is on all the inner chambers. The rest of the chambers won’t look round and firm like those on an ultralight down jacket, at least not when laying flat on the ground. The baffle dimensions change when you wrap it around you in quilt mode, and that's what is correctly designed to keep you warm. The amount of down in each chamber has been measured to be the same as all other Revelation quilts. EE has checked a number of quilts and after given a day to loft, they meet all of their quality expectations. The real test is that the quilt insulates well, regardless of how you think it should look laying flat or hanging in front of a window.
Thank you everyone for posting in the discussion with your questions and photos. We hope this answers your questions, and please remember to give your quilt a day or two to loft fully. Feel free to continue posting in the discussion with your thoughts. And, if you feel like you have an actual manufacturing issue with your quilt, please reach out to Massdrop Customer Service (not EE). Thanks!
We are grateful for everyone who participated in the launch of this collaborative product - you made it all possible. Here’s to many more adventures together!
Sincerely, Danny Milks / Massdrop Tim Marshall / Enlightened Equipment

DannyMilksSo, you're denying that there's an issue with some of the quilts now even though this issue was acknowledged weeks ago and some people have been shipped replacements?

johnny_bgoodeI acknowledged that members were posting and we were listening. I responded that we would look into the reported issue, and in the meantime our Customer Service team gave the benefit of the doubt and apparently shipped out a replacement to one member. And you know what? That member will get the exact same quilt.
Now, Enlightened Equipment has had the chance to check out numerous quilts and found them to all meet their quality controls, and the down distribution is what would be expected on their own Revelation quilts. If you can compare a 20 degree EE Revelation against your Massdrop Revelation, and find a difference, please contact us. Otherwise, all evidence that EE has seen is that these are all correctly made.
Please keep in mind that people are posting pictures of the quilt flat like a blanket, and not in it's primary use case - cinched up around as a sleeping quilt. I understand it appears, flat and hanging in front of a window, that the down is not evenly distributed throughout the baffles. But that is not the method nor format used to determine the warmth rating in the intended use case. These are made correctly and just as warm as every other Revelation. Isn't that good news?

DannyMilksThanks for investigating the issues raised by the owners Danny. Can you clarify the information regarding warranty on these quilts? In the comments @Cardamomtea mentioned that that for these Massdrop made-in-China quilts, the down is excluded from the warranty, and only the stitching is covered. Is this true? Say if someone had a defective quilt and returned it, what is the process from there on? Thanks in advance!

JimmyYHappy to help! I'm not sure anyone would state that down was excluded from the warranty, or even how that would be executed. Maybe Cardamomtea can shed some light on why they think this / where they heard this?
If anyone has a defective quilt, then please only contact Massdrop Customer Support (via your Transactions page) and we'll resolve it - replacement, refund, credit, etc. If the quilt needs to be fixed, then we would arrange to have it delivered to EE for repair.

DannyMilksThanks @DannyMilks. You've restored my confidence in this product and I'm keen to use it in the Australian Alps. I actually had the quilt in a box to be returned to the Massdrop warehouse but I think i'll hold it a bit longer now :).

JimmyYGlad to hear it. You'll have to share some pics! I think people had some valid questions here, and I didn't have good answers. The delay was painful for me, but I think we all came out ok. I'm psyched that the fabric and baffles were abit lighter than we thought.
Are the Australian Alps the Blue Mountains, or is it a distinct range?

DannyMilksThe Australian Alps are a group of hills (seriously hills, Australia is pretty flat) near the borders of Victoria and New South Wales, whereas the Blue Mountains are the ones near Sydney. Both are pretty unique in regards to landscape, flora and fauna. Here's a photo of the last time i went!

Thanks again for answering the hail of questions thrown at you. I just wanted the revelation owners and Massdrop to be confident/ happy about the purchase, as the quilts don't exactly come cheap and take a while to manufacture. Cheers Jimmy

DannyMilksI called Enlightened Equipment and spoke to Tyler over the phone, and he told me that the down was excluded from the warranty and if I wanted it fixed it would be $40.

CardamomteaThanks for relaying this info. The good news is the everything is warrantied, there are no exclusions, and you'll be taken care of if you have any issue with your quilt. I talked to EE (Tim and Tyler) this morning, and they're not quite sure what was said to imply that the down is excluded from the warranty. It is of course covered, like would be expected. So, I'm sorry that there was any confusion and I hope you're good with this answer!
Also, as a heads up to everyone reading this, in the future please contact our customer service team as we're able to issue returns and refunds, and send out replacements from our inventory. If it needs to be fixed, then we'll still work with you to have your quilt sent to EE. Thanks!

DannyMilksDo you know what the "real" weight of the long/wide is?

planb10113I'm not Danny, but wanted you to clarify what "real" weight means. The listed spec for long wide is:
Long/Wide
Length: Up to 6 ft 6 in (198 cm) tall Width: 58 in (147 cm) head tapered to 42 in (107 cm) foot Down fill: 16.4 oz (464 g) Weight: 25.8 oz (730 g)
The Regular/Wide quilts I received ranged from .55oz (14g) to 1.05oz (29g) underweight, based on Massdrop specs. I had my first quilt weighed on EE scales and the weight was identical, so my scale at home is accurate.
So, I would guess the "real" Long/Wide weight is around 24.8oz -- but that's totally just a guess :-)

CardamomteaI definitely could have been more clear. Danny was saying the weight of the quilts turned out to be less than what is written in the specs. I was wondering if he or anyone else knew the actual or average weight of the long/wide. Your comment is certainly helpful though. Thank you!

planb10113The quilts are all about 0.5 oz (14g) lighter than what is the in the specs right now, due to the savings from fabric and baffle weight. I'll have the specs updated shortly, and will post here again. [edit - the specs have been updated on the product page]

DannyMilksDon’t agree the fabric weight of the 15D should weigh more than EE 10D ! if you buy from EE of a reg length and reg wide the weight is 21.13 if I add one side 20D the weight is 23.13 plus to gain the same temp rating of Down from Duck the bag will have to weigh more! Massdrop calculations just don’t add up and I am seriously wondering to what I have purchased. I haven’t used mine in the UK due to this!
