Bringing Back the Orca
One of Eric Ochs’ most prominent designs is the Orca. With its stout construction, strong titanium liners, and hefty blade, it fits all of our criteria going into this project. That said, we still have some big-time choices to make before we kick things off.
If you’re familiar with Eric’s work, you know he loves hammered bolsters. The trouble is, these bolsters are done by hand in his shop, so achieving the same look on a production knife isn’t exactly a cakewalk. To do the original Orca justice, we’re working on various tactics to ensure the hammered texture comes through in the milling process.
The next big decision is color selection. After looking through all kinds of swatches, we’ve landed on four colors that embody the Pacific Northwest, where Ochs grew up and still resides. Our version of the Orca will be available in Glacier Blue, Forest Green, Madrone Brown, and Obsidian Black—and if things work out, we may have a couple models with upgraded carbon fiber scales...
