Nothing screams "cheap knife" like "Massdrop" etched onto the blade. I'm certainly not going to pay full price for a knife (that's not otherwise meaningfully different from Sebenza ripoffs from other brands) that advertises a discount retailer. The Massdrop logo makes this knife exactly as valuable to me as a free ballpoint pen from the bank. in both cases, despite the utility remaining, the class is completely gone.

Jaywalk3rHow do the MD colabs compare to sebenza ripoffs exactly?
With regards to branding, I sorta agree and disagree with you. While I DO think a stylized logo would be an improvement, in hand the labling is not as glaring as in the photos. The writing font is considerably smaller on the Crux than the Falcon. The show sides of both knives are sterile. I’ll bet we see even more subdued branding on new editions, which will be an improvement. In the meantime, I’ll leave you with the text enblazen on the lock side of a favorite from my collection, for the purpose of comparison.: ”Zero Tolereance 0460 KAI USA Sinkevich Design Ser. xxxx S35VN”.

jmunderThis knife IS a Sebenza ripoff. It's a titanium folder with a Sebenza Integrated Lock (albeit an inferior implementation), with the same basic handle and blade shapes. The handle bevelling is clearly copied. Don't get me wrong, FF changed some things up, for example, by making it a tacticool flipper and by making no attempt to copy the Sebenza's luxurious bushing pivot. It's obvious from the pics that the fit and finish is well below the CRK standard, and a lot of corners have been cut in the design, presumably to keep the price down. However, it's the Massdrop logo that's the dealbreaker. Tacky doesn't begin to describe it. It makes these knives unsuitable even as a gift.

Megalodon9Should we assume the tacky logo placement was your idea? I'm sorry if you were offended, but I stand by my criticisms; they are fair and reasonable.

Jaywalk3rThen don't buy it and stop crapping on this great knife that's a better value than a sebenza.

RussB"Better value than a Sebenza?!?!?" ROFLMFA! That's rich, coming from someone who has never handled a Sebenza and doesn't know enough about knives to recognize this FF offering is an obvious Sebenza clone. <rolls eyes>

Jaywalk3rBy that line of logic the spyderco slysz bowie is a sebenza knockoff, as is the falcon and the zt0450cf and the 0452 and... Every other titanium frame lock. You spend all this time saying you don't give a shit about it but if you didn't you wouldn't spend so much time on it.

HellreaverYes, most titanium Sebenza Integrated Lock (aka "framelock") knives are essentially Sebenza clones, although the Crux is a very obvious copy among non-counterfeits. Lots of companies produce titanium frame locks, of widely varying quality between companies, with minimal or insignificant changes in design. It's no different from every knife manufacturer, big or small, having their own version of the Buck 110 in the 70s and 80s. Sooner or later, someone will finally raise the bar again, and there will be a different folding knife design that everyone else copies for a decade or three. It works like that in a lot of industries, not just knives.

RussBJaytroll seems troubled. Likely paid full price for a fantastic Chris Reeve product and now feels compelled to shame anyone who does find value in this fine knife. People are strange.

MotorradChris reeve knifes are overrated in my humble opinion. I'm grateful he's made such an important contribution to the knife world, but his designs feel uninspired and overpriced.

RussBMost things are a better value than a sebenza, but I get your point. The more performance you want, the worse your price to performance ratio.

HellreaverTrue, that's why i keep talking about price to quality equaling value. For the prices of both the crux and anything from crk the crux, imo, represents a better value. Now if you go talking about a $1200 william henry with jewel embedded thumbstuds, gold leaf inlaid handles, perfectly executed grinds on a ZDP189 blade with a lifetime service warranty and authorized dealers around the country where you can always take the knife for any troubles at all, then I'd say the $1200 knife represented an arguably better value.
But titanium slab handle knives with no embellishments with s35vn blades made to tolerances that, generally speaking, exceed what the human eye and hand alone can distinguish between, both made by reputable companies, and one selling for 1/4 of the price, well, those insignificant flaws seem...insignificant.

Jaywalk3rSo all titanium handle folders with a frame lock are sebenza rip-offs . You are the worst kind of knife person... go buy a buck 110 and crawl back in your box. Oh wait... the 110 has a logo on the blade never mind

Gunmonkey1974Yes, I'm the worst kind of knife person: an informed one. Yes, Sebenza clones are a huge category of folding knives in the current knife market. Pretty much any titanium folder with an Integrated Sebenza Lock is a Sebenza clone. Some are more blatant copies than others. It's pretty obvious in the case of this FF offering.
