Good job on the guys noting that it’s a combination of AEB-L and 302... I have no experience with either steel as knife steels, anyone who can lend me some experience? and @mike.j can we please get some feedback about the HRC and wether it’s AEB-L and 302 intertwined on the edge or it’s only AEB-L? If that’s even possible?

ManaScreamHey ManaScream, I don't have that information on hand but I will ask Jesse over at Vegas Forge. As another note, the steel is listed as also having 440C mixed in. As for the matrix of the mix, keep in mind this is not a san mai type steel, or in other words, there are layers of 302 and AEB-L all along the edges and there is not a single layer of a particular steel all along the edge of the knife. So yeah it's possible but not with this particular steel. Damacore is a new steel from Damasteel that sports this tech using RWL34 and PMC27 but not without a hefty price.

Saw that 440C too. So I'm guessing the amount of 302 is minimal, just enough to boost the stainless properties of the steel.

mike.j@mike.j based on this info, i think it would be best to add clarification to this item with regard to the material so that people don't just assume that 50% of the steel is made out of butterknife steel. If only 10-20% of the steel is 302 and the rest are AEBL/440C im sure a lot of people can live with it. BTW i still stand by my comment about using Damasteel DS93X which is a combination of RWL34 and PMC27, which is basically CPM154 and 12C27. 12C27 is similar to AEBL which is the "high carbon" component of this Vegas Forge damascus, while for Damasteel you have RWL34 in the mix for better edge performance. Also since Damasteel are not technically made via forging the different steel together, you'll never have to worry about delamination, inclusion or gap. Given that Reate, WE and other Chinese manufacturers has been making Damasteel knife for a while there should be ample supply of this material and I honestly doubt that it's more expensive than Vegas Forge damascus. Regardless, one thing i know for certain is that you will not have this many doubt if you guys have just gone with Damasteel to begin with.

mike.jOne last thing Mike based on your comment about Damacore. Damacore is a different product from Damasteel, it's a san-mai style steel in which you have RWL34 and PMC27 sandwiching a core made out of Vanax(or Damasteel equiv of Vanax formula). Vanax is a high performance nitrogen supersteel which is probably the most expensive out there. The other Damasteel made purely from the mix of RWL34 and PMC27 should be cheaper

massdrop01Hey massdrop01, Thanks for the reply! I've already started working on getting that info for us all so that we may better understand the structure and edge retention abilities of Vegas Forge's damascus. As for Damasteel, we're totally on board with this steel and possibly using it but all I can say for now is... stay tuned! ;]

massdrop01Yeah, I'd sure love to have some Damacore in my collection but the prices are out of this world. Even getting some is an astronomical challenge due to the high demand.

mike.jI heard Vanax by itself is more expensive than Maxamet, let alone a san-mai damascus steel made of vanax. One can dream...
