I hate to be the bearer of bad news for my fellow Canucks, but the CBSA has prohibited the import of centrifugal knives, including “flipper” style knives, effective January 7, 2018. Note section 2.b of the regulations at the link below. http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/cn-ad/cn18-01-eng.html
”2. In accordance with subsection 84(1) of the Criminal Code and the CITT's recent decision in T. LaPlante, the CBSA resolves that centrifugal knives will be classified as prohibited weapons if the following conditions are met:
A) a knife has a blade that opens by centrifugal force, when the blade is released from the handle into the fully ejected and locked position with a simple and brisk outwardly flick of the wrist; and B) it includes knives that require some preliminary or simultaneous minimal manipulation of either a flipper or other non-edged parts of the blade.
3. Please be advised that the CBSA will immediately prohibit the importation of all knives by an individual that open as per the CITT's decision. Importation by a business is permitted if a Firearms Business Licence has been presented with import – prohibited weapon, listed as a business activity on the licence. ”
This is a CBSA ruling in importation only, NOT a re-interpretation of the Criminal Code for flipper knives already in the country. (So far....) Another case of “muh government” keeping us all safe
Too bad, as well.... it’s a nice little knife for the money. Mine from the first run is in my regular EDC rotation.
Massdrop may want to make prospective Canadian buyers aware of this, and refund any purchases, to save the buyer the “post-shipping” headaches

Droid1963Yup....saw that last week and the sad part is that it includes almost any folding knife.... I can "flick of da wrist" all of my folding knives after preliminary manipulation of a flipper, hole(spyderco's), thumbstud or any opening piece on any folding knife...
This judgement is bullshit.

VipeXyup...CBSA basically banned all one hand opening locking folding knife...I have no idea who is making those decisions...must be some body never used a folding knife in his/her full life...

RebuswindI figure the CBSA saw how the RCMP was ”making it up as they went along” re-writing the gun laws, and wanted in on the action. Amy government body exists in part to justify its own existence.

Droid1963Damn, that's a rough one! I don't think i own a single folder that can't be deployed like that, after manually getting it started, with enough effort. One i used to have like that could always be turned around to pinch the blade and use the weight of the handle to flip it out if i really needed to... Wonder what their ruling on that would be.
Either way, very very lame!

VipeXWe saw the press release and have asked our shipping partner for clarification, that's all I know for now as the matter is ongoing.

JonasHeinemanJonas, have you considered removing the “Ships to Canada” on the intro page until clarity is provided? A lot of folks won’t read the discussions

Droid1963Our shipping partner has not indicated there will be any problems with this knife or other knives simply because they open via flipper tabs, unless they also have 'assisted-open' mechanisms or weak detent that enable centrifugal opening. At this time, we have not experienced reports of any seizures. We will continue to press for clarification, and of course take care of anyone who does have problems receiving shipments if that happens.
