Got my knife just a few minutes ago. I was out and about and swung by the house and saw the USPS guy on my street so I did that weird stalky thing where I stayed in the driveway until he left. Don't look at me with your judgy eyes. You all do it, too.
First impressions:
1. The color is much darker than I thought it would be based on photos, which makes me happy. It's definitely a periwinkle / blurple kind of color, but pretty awesome.
2. The old style clip is pretty terrible. I don't hate the operation of the clip, but the sort of yin-yang teardrop design of the clip just feels a little out of place on a knife that otherwise feels very aerodynamic and sleek. Also... I'd prefer to keep my knife at or below pocket level if I can help it at all. I'm actually considering running this one sans-clip as a true "pocket" knife until I can get another clip. There's just an awful lot of knife sticking up out of there for my taste.
3. The detent on mine is SUUUUPER tight as is the pivot. I'll likely disassemble and give it a good cleaning and put it all back together tonight and see where that gets me. Don't get me wrong, it feels good, but it's very tight. Needs a little break-in period, maybe.
4. It's smaller than I expected it to be (that's what she said). Which is a great thing. Currently, my EDC is split between a Benchmade 940 and a Benchmade Mini Grip. Neither of which are small, but this comes in even smaller than those and feels a little more "work friendly" even though it looks a little more stabby than the tanto and reverse-tanto of my Benchmades.
5. It feels really good in the hand and for me. When gripping it fully, the clip sits right in the crease between the pad at the top of my hand and the base of my fingers and really just locks it in there.
6. Reversing my grip (like if I were going to peel an apple with it), is comfy and my index finger wraps around the blade nicely with my first knuckle kind of bending around just behind the harpoon, but in front of the jimping.
7. I don't super love the lanyard hole. I don't do lanyards and beads and dangly things on my knives, but I realize that's a popular pocket jewelry sort of thing to do. At the very most, I might stick some paracord through a lanyard hole and tie a knot so it's easy to snag out of a bag or something, but being that this is a pocket knife, I can't see using a lanyard hole at all and would have preferred not having it.
8. The "Spidey Hole" on the blade is unique and beautiful, but not terribly useful. It does offer some relief and gives a neat shape to the blade that would otherwise just be a slab of metal right there in that area.
9. Probably my biggest complaint... Why on earth does this knife have to have Massdrop written on the blade? Maybe just having the "M" in a circle or engraving an "M x FF" logo where the FF logo is engraved? Thankfully, most people aren't looking THAT closely, but it's a little annoying that it's so prevalent on such a small blade. Got this baby gussied up like a Daytona 500 Stock Car on race night.
10. It's nice and sharp right out of the box. Won't shave hairs, but for opening mail, packages, etc., it's absolutely more than adequate and plenty sharp for my needs.

HeyMatthewAccurate review, agreed on most points (though I don't really care much about the name on the blade. Would be more annoyed if it was on the facing side (assuming, like we do, that everyone is a righty lol)
I thought, for a second, about trying to see if the spidey hole COULD function, but with the strength of the detent i decided if i used enough force to pop it open I'd probably end up driving my thumb into the edge of the blade somehow, so quickly decided better. It's a nice visual touch though
And while I've never used lanyard holes either, it does offer a nice counterbalance (again, visually) to the blade cutout

KavikAfter looking at the knife with your comments in mind, you're right about the lanyard hole offering a counterbalance. Well seen!!!

HeyMatthewMy reply has to due with seeing the postal delivery guy(or women) coming into my parking Lott of the condo I live at. If I am within eyesight of him I am sure to be a little late to my next appointment. There isn't one chance in hell I could go and do what was planned out knowing I have a knife in his truck. There has to be a trick to this addiction, every time I hit my limit I find myself looking at another way too cool, have to have knife out there....If you are reading this then you must be dealing with the same thing....GOOD LUCK FRIEND !
