Received my carbon fiber Gent yesterday. When I tried to move the pocket clip to the opposite side (I'm a lefty), I realized that the pocket-clip screw holes in the titanium on the show side are not threaded all the way through. This means I can't get the clip on tight with the provided screws. Anybody have any ideas?

Anyone else get a shiny pocket clip instead of the satin finish? Really unhappy as this was advertised as an improvement over the first gen gent select. Mine arrived in mid May with a shiny clip! Unsatisfied.

Received with rosewood grip. Impressed by the quality, movement and nicely shaped and sharpened blade. Great buy and perfect size for gents knife (clip is very discreet too, if a little looser than I like).

the fact that you people are complaining about this knife being $120 is hilarious. You all have God spoiled by massdrop. You don't even really know that $120 is a fair price for what you're getting. Let me get this straight. You guys will pay this price and more free play out Spyderco that hasn't changed in years. Yeah, maybe you need a new job...massdrop is probably the cheapest most affordable cool knife retailer online. Where you can get quality craftsmanship from some cool makers. And you cheap bastards are complaining about the price. Go to 99 cent store pick n save for that matter

If you're looking purely based on value per dollar, no, it might not be fair to compare them but I'm just being realistic on how people are, from what I've read, viewing these blades. I don't think it's a question of "Is there anything out there that's better for the exact same amount of money?" but more "Is this exactly the style/scales/steel/clip etc for what I want given the dollar range I'm willing to spend?". More goes into the calculation when folks are cross-shopping than just price and while I think this is probably still a nice knife, it's gone from fantastic deal to not-quite-as great given where the price has ended up.

Okay, so reading through the comments and reviews it seems readily apparent that this knife is not worth the money, especially after the recent price hike. I was thinking about pre-ordering the rosewood version, but now I am looking at other options. Can anyone recommend other gent knives of similar size with rosewood or other wood scales?

It's not -not- worth the money, just isn't a fantastic deal anymore. If you like the looks, go for it, otherwise the Massdrop Dogtooth (which may have also had a price increase) is a nicer 'fancy' knife also available in rosewood. It's slightly smaller and has a different blade shape but I love mine; it's sharp, light, and a great carry.

Yeah I might have used the wrong phrase. It's not a bad deal, but it was a better deal at $100. I like the Dogtooth but I don't care for the black blade with rosewood. I'll probably end up ordering one of these cause it ticks all the boxes.

I really wish they could do something different with the pocketclip I do like the deep carry I just wish they could figure out a way to make hide the hardware back of the clip maybe behind the scale kinda like what brous was doing on some of his knives

Massdrop, you need a better logo. Just printing Massdrop on the blade is the ugliest part about this knife and is a real deterrent from me buying it. Do others feel the same way?

Oooof... was all set to order a 2nd with the custom scales and find pricing is at $120 now? Pass. This ruined the fair deal these were. Was even worth putting up with having to loctite the soft hardware and the lack of availability on a replacement pocket clip. Not anymore. What a shame. Guess it’s back to amazon for me.

You people act as if a nice made by we China is a problem. are used to getting who makes damn near everything we touch. The Chinese. Do you know who the smartest kids in school are. The Chinese do you know who are the most medical and engineering students coming out of college, they're Chinese. So what's your point. Those true Craftsman and Rhodes scholars in ass of nowhere Idaho are supposed to be valueed that much? I think not. In that case every American product I touch better have the exact same quality as a German or Japanese product.

Never said made in China was a problem. Not sure where that tirade came from. I mean hell, I bought the original gent (at $80 less the $10 referral, so $70.) So I had no problem with coo from that standpoint. Production costs are greatly different though, hence the reason they’re made there to begin with. Adding 20-25% to the selling price because the knives found a YouTube following seems poor, and I simply expressed my distaste for the new price point. I also mentioned I would have bought another at the original pricing so they can be aware they lost a customer. It seems you should check out Glassdoor and look at employment with Benchmade and Spyderco as your statements are false. In this case though, WE knives is known for substandard hardware that does not plague the US produced products. So At this new price I could spend slightly more and avoid those issues altogether.

Here are some options in the $80/$90 (g10 gent, chaparral lw, mini grip, and manix lw) And $120/$130 price range (cf gent, bug out, crux, and s30v pm2 edition is $117 on Amazon). Echoing what everyone is saying that at $120 is no longer a good deal as there are so many alternatives from reputable brands with great warranties. Assuming size is a factor at $120, the c.f. Chaparral seems a lot more appealing than the gent.

+1 on this comment, particularly the remark about Massdrop's warranties. I have zero confidence with them in that regard, and with things seemingly becoming less and less of a deal, I find myself coming here mostly for the community itself (rather than to spend money). As a Massdrop's early adopter I've found the products drifting from my tastes, although a large part of the users still reflects my interests. Hence my reasoning for still visiting the site. There's a lot of knowledgeable members and I often find myself looking for recommendations and opinions here, (your post is a good example of that). I do buy stuff here still. Particularly, when it's not available elsewhere, although I now make effort to avoid it.

Wow really wanted the stonewashed blade and c.f. handles but for $40 more is rather just add a little and get another knife. Bad move massdrop. $5-10 you could've gotten away with. Not raising the price on the lower level model though makes this look really bad. 50% mark up is kind of huge. If you were smart.. You would've also added an upgraded/exotic/different blade steel. Definitely would've gotten away with it not to mention people that already owned them would've purchased again.

This knife has lost its edge. The cool thing about this knife was that it was competing in the sub $100 category. Now that it’s at $120, it drops out the more value oriented knife buyer and is forced to compete in a different knife category with a different type of buyer. The type of buyer at the $120 price point will probably think that if I’m spending $120, I might as well see what I can get for a few more bucks. This causes a heck of a problem for this knife because it opens up some serious competition, leaving this knife looking a bit more dull.

Thats a substantial price increase of 20%! The allure of the gent was the affordable price. Im glad i picked one up before the increase but at $120 the bad pocket clip is really an issue now that will turn people off if not redesigned. It is very flimsy and weak and can break fairly easily. In fact there are lots of reviews of people losing the gent all together bc of this. Another issue at higher prices in general is Massdrop's big billboarding on the blades. If you guys wanna charge big boy prices these small details need addressed. Come up with a classy small Massdrop logo/ makers mark rather than uglying up an otherwise sanitary looking blade with huge writing. Believe me its knife guys who buys these pieces and we do not like the bill boarding at all! Watch some youtube reviews and youll see every review mention it. A small logo is tasteful and accomplishs the same thing. another note the best thing massdrop has going for their knives is the WE collabs which offer an overall quality product at an affordable price. With most knives under MAP pricing rules there arent many deals on knives drops to be had otherwise and now with raising prices on the collab pieces im finding less and less drops im interested in. Only good thing is the exclusives but if they are priced attractively and the details are made right.

Hey everyone, As a few members have mentioned, there was a price increase on the Gent Select (from $100 to $120). Our founder and CEO, Steve El-Hage, recently posted about the subject of pricing updates in this Talk Hub post: "I wanted to let you know that we will be increasing the price on a limited amount of Massdrop Made audio and blades products. These increases will generally range from $10-$20 and will go into effect over the next few weeks. We may also revisit prices on a limited amount of additional products in the coming months.

Why the increase? A couple of reasons. When we started, we underpriced some items with the immediate goal of getting them into your hands and out into the community. We knew the price didn’t accurately reflect their market value, but wanted to reward our early adopters for taking a chance with us. Additionally, over the years, costs have gone up around things like manufacturing, shipping, etc." We think the design, materials, and build quality of the Gent Select that have earned it 4.3 stars from members who have reviewed it still represents a great value at this price, and we hope that you will agree. We do hear and appreciate your feedback, and of course we understand that you look to Massdrop for the best products at the best prices. Thanks as always for your feedback, we do appreciate knowing how you feel about this and all the changes we make as Massdrop continues to grow. We do appreciate your views on the pricing adjustment, but I've read all the reviews and most of the support tickets for the Gent Select, and the "majority" of negative comments are not actually about build quality. Mostly, people find the pivot screws comes loose after a number of open/close cycles - that's not build quality, it's a consequence of WE Knife not using very much threadlocker during assembly, which members have specifically requested. After that, the next most common issue is from people bending pocket clips, which is kinda just a thing that happens when you own knives. This clip is thinner than most, by design, so that it sits low and is not conspicuous in a pocket. There are also some people who just didn't read the specs and thought it would be larger, or for some reason were expecting the Gent to be a workhorse, which it obviously isn't designed to be. We've seen fewer than 1% of members ask for exchanges or returns due to manufacturing defect. We understand people prefer to pay less for things and if you think the value at $100 is acceptable but not at $120 then we respect your opinion, but I wanted to clear up any misconceptions about build quality - WE Knife has earned a stellar reputation for their build quality, and they stand behind this and all products they make (for Massdrop). We stand behind them, and the warranty that is offered jointly on this knife by WE and Massdrop. Thanks for taking the time to let us know how you feel, I hope this addresses any concerns about build quality for you and other members.

This knife is fuckin garbage.. all you idiots giving this poorly designed, poorly implemented knife rave reviews is the reason why they bumped the price up. The Gent Select with it's many fit and finish issues.. not to mention it's horrendous pocket clip wasn't worth a hundred bucks.. if you spend $120 on this knife you are a moron. I think this obvious money grab move by Massdrop and FF has soured me on both companies. I'm taking my money elsewhere to be spent.. Fuck you.

I would avoid the rosewood handles on the Massdrop x Ferrum Forge Gent made in China by WE. Chinese manufacturers have a well-documented history of illegally sourcing endangered rosewood from Nigeria. Chinese authorities enforcing the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) have seized a whole forest of rosewood trafficked from Nigeria. But much more needs to be done on a global level. Timber trafficking from Africa to China by transnational organized crime networks is destroying critical habitat for endangered wildlife. Read more about what you can do to stop the environmentally devastating, illegal trade in endangered rosewood on the Environmental Investigations Agency (EIA) website. I previously purchased a Gent with blue G10 scales, and have not yet experienced quality control issues cited by others here.

@Tbrd Ferric Chloride. Pick it up at Radio Shack or similar stores, it's a motherboard/circuitboard etchant. It is what custom makers use to do an acid etch stonewash to stainless blades. I dropped the clip in the solution twice for 5-10 seconds each. Dunk the clip, rinse in cold water, dunk again. If you want to do a stonewash to match, just get a closable container, fill it with some gravel, drop the clip in, and shake.
