Jonas' words are not hyperbole. I have been talking with Pro-Tech about this project since 2015. Dave wanted to get the button lock flipper perfected first and it took some time, years, in fact. But now it is real! The Mordax is coming back to life in a ridiculously fidget-friendly configuration (you're gonna be flippin' and droppin' the blade closed a lot) that is super addictive. I love it when manufactures actually listen to me about metallurgy and Dave totally did. We use CPM 20CV almost all the time now on our made in Cali knives because we find it to have some of the best balance of characteristics for a pocket knife. The original Mordax run from 2015 was in N690 stainless steel, not a terrible steel, in fact, a steel I actually like a lot, but people have been asking for years if we would re-run the Mordax model with 20CV since we use it so much now. When Dave said he was game to try out 20CV, I about fainted... I knew this project was going to be hot fire. A complaint we heard about the original Mordax was that the blade stock was too thick for some people, so on this version the blade stock .125in thick and the tall flat grind makes this a slicey blade. I love titanium, but it was going to kick the price of this knife way up there, so we opted to keep it more budget-friendly and stick with aluminium. Pro-Tech also does a very nice job with their hard coat aluminium anodizing and we loved the blue and green colors. I've owned (and usually lost) Pro-Tech knives for over a decade at this point, in fact, Dave has one of every knife they have ever made in his office and we are pretty sure I owned one the very first runs of Runts he did almost 20 years ago. It's so awesome to be able to work with my heros and bring great knives to the world. It can be a lot work and stress sometimes, but projects like this make it all worthwhile for me. Here's my OG Mordax from 2015 next to the MDxPTxFF Mordax.

FerrumForgeKnifeWorksI was pretty excited to see this because I’m tired of all the frame locks. As a lefty I find them awkward (and risky) to use. A button lock! Yay! 20CV! Yay! Made by Pro Tech! Yay! No option for left hand carry... sigh — next.

BabyboomerYa I this would have finally got me to buy a ForrumForge but since they apparently hate left handed people... Was excited for an actual American knife instead of paying made in USA prices for a Chinese product. This knife is pretty expensive.

ASpathaDoesn't want to "pay made in the USA prices".....then complains about the price of the made in the USA piece..... 🤔🤔🤔 This would be half the cost if manufactured by WE like the rest of the FF colabs. Likewise, the rest of the FF colabs would cost double what they do if made locally. I guess I don't get the logic behind your complaint

ASpathaNo, this knife is a steal, my friend. Do you own and regularly use any knives with a CPM-20CV steel blades? Do you own a knife from any Pro-Tech production run? Either the blade steel or the Pro-Tech construction alone would justify the price, but Ferrum Forge resurrecting one of my favorite model designs to use as the templat?...amazing. And again, very reasonably priced, considering. Incidentally, the only thing that could have made this better was if it was to be an auto.

HatuletohYes, and they have titanium or carbon fiber and titanium handles. ZT does it every day. The aluminum ruined this and it definitely could have been done without a major price increase. People would have been fine with S35VN and titanium like the rest were. ProTech and USA made is nice but it is overpriced for what you get. So is this. That aluminum will not hold up well and look bad within a year tops. No thanks.

KavikI said "This knife is pretty expensive" I didn't complain about the price. The only thing I complained about was the unfriendly to lefty's construction. I would have paid the $260 if it was lefty friendly. I would also be willing to bet their knifes would be cheaper if they where out of Texas or Colorado. There always seems to be an extra 20% on anything that touches California.

HatuletohNope I don't have any Pro-Tech knifes. They shame just as anti lefty as the FF guys. Still their knifes can be had for around this price or even less expensive, which is a same because I would love to have an auto. As for CPM-20V I see the anti corrosive natures of it as amazing but unless I see a deal I'm not interested as I kind of look at it like the pharmaceutical industry. Crucible Industries has the patent on CPM-20V so they are going to jack up the price. Until something generic or better comes along they are going to keep the price high. Especially since simple blade care offsets the needs for the extra anti corrosive properties. Again the only thing I'm actually bitching about here is the anti lefty. I fully believe in the you pay for what you get mentality which is why I still keep adding benchmade knifes and keep drooling over the Chris Reeve Knives (more anti lefty) It just seems extremely lazy or a shear lack of creativity that they manufacturers cant figure out a way to make a knife ambidextrous.

ASpathaAs a right handed guy who likes tip up knife position.... I can say that I love it when knife makers refuse to put left handed screw holes and tip down options on a knife. I totally get it that it ruins the knife for 7-10% of you lefties and countless Tip-down guys. But aestheitcally I love not having extra screw holes that I would never ever use. Probably not lazy just a design choice that makes me happy and pisses off any lefty/tip down guys.

Subiesaurus_R3XI see it as being completely lazy or having a lack of creativity. For instance If you had to remove the sides of the knife to change the pocket clip so the clip wrapped around the grips of the knife. You would have an even deeper pocket carry and even less exposed fasteners. I hear you on the aesthetics, I really don't like framelock knifes for the same reason. Also framelocks have a whole nother path for gunk and crap to get into the inner workings of a knife.

ASpathaThat is like saying “lazy, they didn’t create a new locking mechanism”- if a designer creates a beautiful knife with a frame lock, is that lazy and lacking creativity? I get your point that it sucks (for lefties) that it’s a right handed knife but let’s not be ridiculous.

ASpathaHere's one for you, a previous drop that did have an interesting solution to left or right carry, while not leaving unused holes on either scale https://www.massdrop.com/buy/mecarmy-ek28-damascus-edc-knife?utm_source=linkshare&referer=94FC7J Of course.....they wanted like $380 for a knife with <2" of mystery "Swedish Damascus" for the blade 🙄🤣😒

ulvenYou're probably right. But the whole thing was just so ridiculously overpriced, I didn't spend too much time digging into it. The drop just listed "Swedish Damascus" in the specs...and seeing "Damascus" without listing the steel types, or at least naming the manufacturer so potential buyers can research it if they want to, is kind of a pet peeve of mine

ASpathaCRK does dedicated left handed frames; in all actuality they're one of the most lefty friendly manufacturers. Retailers, however, tend to carry the dedicated lefty CRKs less universally. Best bet is to order direct from CRK.

FerrumForgeKnifeWorksThis is perfectly stated. Aluminum is a very nice material that people hate on for no reason. Titanium would be cool but then no one would buy it because it would just cost to damned much. I'd rather have the better steel than a more high end handle material.
