So I picked up a couple of doo-dads to compare, and/or use with the RUK. Anyway..... The kit in blue box was a whopping $6 at my local craft store. The oval holes looked a bit oblong, and I thought they may work in the RUK (before I got the Z-11 blades). But they were a no-go anyway. At least they are incredibly sharp, and will still get plenty of use.

Then this little guy from Amzn dubbed the "Hummingbird". About half the price for Titanium, but nowhere near as fun to play with. 🤪. Claims it locks open and closed. As well as not needing to hold the slide button during use. But that is simply not the case. True it is not spring loaded for safe auto retraction. The actual action is simply a magnet behind, and riding directly against the blade for friction. So the blade pretty much stays where you push it.....unless pressure is applied to the blade (even with use). So it is required to hold the button during use. And attention to detail is the only guarantee that the blade is fully retracted when not in use....or going into pocket.

Unfortunately none of the included blades work in either unit. The hobby blades don't work in either blade holder. And neither the RUK nor the Ti Hummingbird blades work in each other. And the OLFA blade that came in the Hummingbird was actually fairly dull. Since I didn't have any other blades that would work in it, I spent some time with a loaded strop to bring it back to working razor edge.

BflyingI've been posting on this item way too much. Sorry about that. But feel I should add one thing concerning the Titanium magnetic action blade above. When it comes to my blades, I'm pretty deliberate in terms of safety and how I handle. Especially with new/unproven (to me anyway) designs. So I've been carrying both the RUK and this "chepper" design side by side to compare. Earlier I put my hand in the pocket to grab them, and my fingertip just barely came in contact with a blade tip. Fortunately I didn't jamb my hand in fast, and was a little gentle in handling while still vetting a new model. So the Hummingbird (titanium frame, magnetic action), even though the description lists as being able to lock open and closed, is not accurate. The magnet simply sits behind the blade, and almost always in contact with. So in reality, no "locking" action at all, just a small amount of friction. The friction must be overcome to move the blade at all. So it's not overly strong. Could easily be bumped or dropped and leave the blade in a dangerous position. I've found the springloaded action of the RUK to be the safest of the pocket hobby blades I have so far.

BflyingThank you for your input on this. I’m looking specifically for a small handy knife to keep in my pocket at work, mainly for boxes and such. Knowing this won’t slice my hand open (like every other small knife I’ve tried) is great info.
