so far so good
1st impressions. The Hype is real. I have been looking for an upgrade to my HD 6XX's that I love. The Elex has been everything I was hoping for. Similar sound signature/tone, greater bass and treble extension, greater dynamics and clarity when compared to my HD 6XX . Highly recommend. I have not had any of the issues with clipping on bass heavy songs but I do not listen to them at extremely loud volumes. The included cables are stiff/janky. I purchased a Meze Audio 99 Classics silver plated OFC balanced cable on amazon for $50. https://www.amazon.com/99-Series-2-5-Balanced-Cable/dp/B07FQ2BCK5/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3DBQSTKNEW2H0&keywords=meze+audio+cable&qid=1573936061&sprefix=meze+audio%2Caps%2C131&sr=8-3 I also got the MASSDROP 4-PIN XLR-TO-2.5MM TRRS ADAPTER. This combination was cheaper than purchasing most aftermarket cables for the Focal that terminate in a 4pin XLR. This replacement cable has sounded no different than the included cable but is more flexible with no microphonics. (I have issues with included cable and have had issues in the past with aftermarket Periapt cables with microphonics when the cable rubs against my clothes) I have been powering the Elex on my Schitt Jotunheim via balanced connection and on my Darkvoice via single ended. Both combinations have sounded great with the Jotunheim being my preference with most songs. I have tried several different headphones/IEM's from Sony/Koss/Beyerdynamic/Tinhifi and always go back to and prefer my HD 6XX. I believe the Elex will become my new go to & favorite headphone. Highly recomend
