I'm surprised these aren't selling out more quickly. The boys over at SBAF recently had a meet and several people were... let's just say quite impressed with the Elear with Clear pads, which is what the Elex is.

FrostyPOooo this is one of those wholly ignorant assertions I'm thrilled to destroy. Let's start with: which part of "Elear with Clear pads" do you think is inaccurate?
junkiIt is a bit more than pads, more so I believe what they knew it needed to be, to become the new co-branded signature set of cans for MD; a ’Baby Utopia’.
From Will: “the drivers have different impedance (it's the same magnet in the Elear and the Clear, but they charge the magnet differently resulting in 55ohm impedance compared to the Elear's 80ohm)”

rastusRight, Will there is explaining the difference between the Clear and the Elear. The Clear and Elear uses the same diaphragm, but the voice coil has been revised on the Clear (hint: the voice coil charges the magnet in dynamic transducers), resulting in the Clear's 55 ohm vs. the Elear's 80 ohm impedance.
I'm not sure why you believe that's relevant to this discussion. You are either misunderstanding the context of Will's comment, or intentionally trying to mislead this community that the Elex has a 55 ohm driver revision.
The Elex uses the Elear's same 80 ohm drivers.
junki More going on here than a pad, color and cable, meant to link this stuff in the last post, but was on my phone.
Will: "At this point, it should be pretty clear what I'm alluding to and a critical thinker might ask "If it's closer to the Clear than the Elear, why'd you describe it as a refinement of the Elear rather than a refinement of the Clear?"
And this, that for a reason,, did not come down...:
"I'm sorry I have to phrase all of this in rhetorical questions and alluding language, but business relationships are complicated, and I may have to take down this post anyway depending who calls who over the next couple days. As always, thanks for your interest and questions, even if I have to answer them in a roundabout way."
Heefty made an interesting coil/suspension/damping observation a while back:
rastusWill is trying to tell you that he can't come right out and say, "We put Clear pads on the Elear." What he can and has said is, and I quote, "The Elex is an Elear with perforated earpads and headband, a much lighter 1/4" cable, an additional 4-pin XLR cable, and a blacked out colorway for $700 (vs Elear MSRP of $1000)."
Heefty's statement about the voice coils is exactly what I said earlier in this thread. Notice that he did not distinguish between Elex and Elear voice coils. Because there isn't any difference.
Thanks for including Marv's FR plot of the Utopia vs the Elear with Clear pads. He also says in the Clear thread, and I quote, "Elex is Elear wtih Clear pads."
Jacaveinteresting, pretty sad such an expensive product was so bad, personally don't own any schiit audio stuff, guess i'll avoid it now i have the 02-SDAC so im good
