3 stars due to the price of the headsets. At over 600$ I expected a rather superior sound quality compared the HD 6XX that I had purchased a few months before. That is overall just not the case.
The build quality is very good. The cables that come in the box as well. The box is fancy, but bulky, so if you have a small place, you won’t be displaying that box as you hoped. I wish the clasping force was a little higher.
The sound signature of the ELEX is different compared to the HD6XX. Without trying to sound very poetic, and in my opinion:
- it seems to me the ELEX produces superior sound, but not for all kinds of music. - the ELEX sounds better with R&B, hip hop and similar genres. The ELEX has not proven to be better than the HD6XX for live concerts, plugged into my AVR Receiver. Acoustic or Live music simply sound better in the HD6XX to my ears. - I wish I had a manual equalizer in order to control the high’s that sound too crisp in many genres of music, which makes it difficult to listen at high volumes. - the base is present but not completely immersive. Not impressive with really low base, that just may the nature of open back headsets. - The mids of the HD6XX are superior than the mids of the ELEX. My opinion of the highs is similar. The base of the ELEX seems to cover a wider rage of frequencies.
Overall, my rating is due to the price tag mainly. Reducing this variable would make it a superior headset choice. I wouldn’t recommend this item at this price range, because there are other cheaper headsets that produce similar or greater sound at a cheaper price. In my experience.

AndresGulinoI strongly suggest that you buy a high-quality headphone Amp/DAC rather than use an AV Receiver and see if you like them better. A good DAC is a better strategy than an equalizer. The Elex is head-and-shoulders better than the my HD-600s in every way when connected to my FiiO Q5 (balanced output) or through my Massdrop CTH amp. The bass of the Elex is quite strong with either method, but thin through some amps. I find the Sennheisers to be much more harsh than the Elex through any source, and they lack range and definition at both the high and low end.
It's true that the Elex have a huge dynamic range and can be overwhelming; this is largely a function of poor recording or mastering. But I'm liking the Elex more and more with a good signal chain.

AndresGulinoG3n3r1c got at most of the important points, but if you're using them out of an AV Receiver, it makes sense that the 6XX seems comparable. It likely has to do with output impedance on your receiver, generally they're pretty high, which is going to make a low impedance (for full size open back dynamics) headphone sound muddy or unclear, vs on the higher impedance 6XX where everything should be presented correctly.
