I would buy for $500. $700 is too much.. its only worth the price depending on your setup. i own fostex ph, m1060 , he4xx and k7xx paired with cavali liquid carbon amp.

ludachris700$ is fair for these as they are better then all 4 headphones u mentioned on top of that they are 98% Focal Clears for half the money. The amount of clarity they bring and the tonality is really spot on, compared to a 6XX it’s like a layer of detail was unlocked with no downsides.

ludachrisDefinitely worth the price for build quality and the tech used for these headphones. Everything feels premium about them from their lovely box down to their cables and the microfiber ear pads. They also already come bundled with a balanced XLR cable. Of everything you listed, they can't hold a candle to the Elex. If you want something better, you'd have to look in a much higher price bracket. The Elex is pretty much "entry level" Hi-Fi but it still competes very well with some of the other big boys out there,

jaydunndidditI know its better than my headphones i own but i only listen to spotify for music. I dont own any flacs or have high end gear to bring full potential of the $700 headphones. I wouldnt think its 3x better than my $200 headphones since im already satisfied with my current audiophile setup. I still dont see the fair price of $700 in terms of sound but i do see the technology/ labor youre paying for.

ludachrisU don’t need anything crazy to power them and u don’t need dsd mega lossless files to take advantage of these, they sound great right out of a phone port.

ludachrisThat's the other great thing about the Elex; they don't need picky amps or gobs of power to sound amazing. Their requirements are startlingly low: 80 ohms with a sensitivity of 104 dB SPL / 1 mW at 1 kHz.

Whether it's out of my phone, AVR, hybrid tube amp, portable amp/DAC, etc. the Elex sound amazing. It's essentially a budget Clear at less then half the price. You can't really beat that.

ludachrisIn my collection I have the same amp, and all of the cans you have (well, instead of the 4XX I have the new Sundara)... So, I can give you some perspective. If you can afford the Elex, get the Elex. They are hands down significantly better than the cans you have now. You spent over $400 on the Fostex, these are much better (unless you really and truly want that level of bass, then yeah, pass on these, you won't like them).
You certainly have every right to say that you would buy them for $500 and not $700! Assuming that you actually know what the Elex sounds like that statement is based on either (a) taste (as in you want more bass like in the Fostex) or (b) you only have $500 to spend on new headphones. But I can tell you that at least for some - like me - they were worth the $700 (based on taste and ability to pay).
I am sure that over the next few months some used pairs will become available and may eventually hit the $500 price point you want then pick them up - assuming that they meet your tastes!

jsmiller58I like cans with bass but im looking for something that can replace my k7xx because its not enough going on. Im interested in this focals and i only have $500 to spend on but thats means i would have to sell my k7xx. What im also worried about is the weight of these focals which means I cant wear for long period. I often fall asleep in my chair listening for 3 to 4 hrs straight. I have never tried out any focal headphones but i do want warm headphones with detail since I have a lot of bass cans in my collection. Ill have to sell a lot of things to get this started. Ill give it a try.

ludachrisWhile they are a bit on the heavy side they are incredibly comfortable. I lay in bed (and fall asleep) with mine all the time. I could wear them all day personally as their weight is well distributed. Their signature is a warm take on neutral but they're still quite clear and detailed. And what they lack in bass impact they make up for in bass quality. They do a good job with texturing and have a nice 'snap' to snares and things like that. These are pretty pricey but they are a damn good headphone. They're making me sell off other sets because I only listen to these and really have no use for the others any longer. For me, these are that good.

jaydunndidditThis is right. I'm wearing them now and they are extremely comfortable. Personally, I don't find them heavy, but regardless the distribution alleviates any discomfort concern. As far as bass, yeah these won't knock your socks off, but like jay said, the quality is very impressive. The mids and highs are where these cans really shine, IMO. The clarity makes those notes sparkle and each one is presented almost independently if that makes sense, but it works!
