I mainly am a portable listener with the CA Andromedas Lyra II and cascades being what I normally listen to but when I am at my desk listening I use HD 650’s and he 4XX.
At my desk computer I am gaming majority of the time so i want an upgrade from those headphones for music as well as hearing footsteps and great imaging to sense where the enemy is coming while PC gaming.
i find my hd 650s very nice vocals for music but average at best for footsteps and imaging with gaming. HD 700s are much better for this but aren’t that great with music
Does anyone have any experience gaming with these as I want a headphone that can do both music and gaming at a high level. I know this is odd for a HP in this price range but these would be too expensive for listening to music at my desk alone (again I do 70% of my music enjoyment on my deck in my backyard with some whiskey)

RareAirsI game with mine for Battlefield, Halo, Gears, Forza, Doom, Titanfall 2, Wolfenstein, etc. and they do well. They're not veiled like the 6XX so sounds come across nice and clear. However, they don't have a soundstage as wide as the the HD 700 although I would say their imaging is top-notch in its given space. The Elex is quite dynamic so there is good range between soft and loud sounds and plenty of micro/macro details. They don't have the most bass impact but they do extend well in the low-end. But, if you care about hearing as much as you can, I don't think you;d want a ton of boomy bass muddying up footsteps and gunfire.
They also pair well with the music I listen to (mostly the blues, jazz, soul, funk etc.) and while they lack the impact, they do surprisingly well with HipHop, RnB, and EDM. They're also easy to drive so you'll be sure to get a great level of audio quality without needing uberly expensive or powerful equipment.

RareAirsHave you tried pairing the HD700’s with a tube amp?

rastusNo I do not own a tube amp unfortunately and no longer have the 700’s. Even at $500 they were too expensive for just a gaming headphone. i already have too much stuff that’s why I am trying to find a HP that can do both at a high level. I would probably get the DT 990 for under $200 if I wanted something only for gaming as they are known for great imaging with fairly wide sound stage but I am running out of room so that’s the main reason why I want something nice for both.

RareAirswhen I first read of the HD700 as gamers,, I thought ‘crazy, too expensive’,, then rethought... perfect. I do think the Senn engineers meant tubes to be a part of the picture, when they created the 700, that and hi rez. My 700’s have been neglected since getting Elex’s...

rastusWould you say the 700 is worth it if I can get a pair for about $300-350 used?

jaydunndidditBias alert, the HD700’s were my discovery pair. I was going to push the key for the HD6XX and the 700’s dropped, I read every damn review and went 700. So, if you keep vigilant, for dual use, you will likely see a perfect pair(no dents in that damn stainless mesh - just asking for it) for ~$300. Or... wait for MD & Senn to possibly make an HD8XX, I am. Just,, as gamers, not a gamer, but hear so much about 7.1 etc. from a friend, the 700’s are old I guess.

jaydunndidditSince first having the Elex and then doing a bit of comparison to the 700, I haven't gone back much.
I just did... you have the Elex's I see, save your money for the 800's, of some variant...
