Has the clipping issue been resolved on these headphones? Also has anyone compared them to the Sennheiser 800s cans?

MRphotographycomI've heard 3 different pairs so far, none of them have mechanical clipping, even with music with lots of sub bass. Perhaps I'm not pushing them hard enough, but the levels I'm listening at do not make them clip. I have heard something that sounded like clipping once, but it was due to the cable not being pushed in all the way, which caused intermitent buzzing in one of the channels. I think people who experience clipping either have a defective pair or cable, or are raising the volume way too loud for normal listening.

MRphotographycomI got the Elex blind - if you liked the HD6XX but want it to do more, the Elex definitely improves on it. I honestly haven't touched my HD6XX since.

texindusHow much more soundstage are you getting? I really happy with the 6XX but wish it had a bigger soundstage I have been told the HD800s is what I should get but that price is huge wondering how close these get to that soundstage?

MRphotographycomIt's pretty wide to me. There's a lot of folks that found them very narrow, but definitely wasn't the case for me. I haven't heard the HD800s but I think folks have already provided their feedback that they aren't HD800 tier in that regard. In fact a few folks in the discussion think the HD6xx is wider, which I didn't really feel was the case maybe due to the veil.

texindusI am really on the fence on getting these or saving up for the HD800s cans..... but they are three times the price and not sure if they are truly 3 times the sound, I wish I had somewhere local to give them all a listen.

MRphotographycomThe Elex does have a noticeably wider stage than the 6XX, the sound comes from the front of you instead of the sides. However, from a purely tonality perspective, the 6XX has the more natural tone, smoother in the mids and treble. The Elex has a bit of edge to it, it's got extra detail the 6XX doesn't have. The one big advantage the Elex has over the 6XX is the bass and sub bass. The Elex have a really nice tight and extended bass that completely leaves the 6XX in the dust. Also, the sense of scale and dynamics are very good. With the right EQ settings, the Elex is a huge improvement over the 6XX. I would not consider the 800s, because those are measurably sharper and peakier in the treble compared to the Elex. The Elex is already close enough to the 600 series Sennheisers, the 800 is a complete departure from that type of sound.

BA0701Thanks for the Reply! I actually went with the Elear Cans with the Clear Pads which produce nearly the exact same sound quality as the Elex headphones because they were better priced at the time then what DROP was offering and I don't have a truly balanced amp so the cables didn't matter to me. I have played all kinds of music through them, listening right now and so far no clipping.
