I got mine today, and they are awesome! If you're a basshead, and you want non-fart cannon, non-muddy, relatively tight, super-extended bass (along with a good presentation of the rest of the spectrum), you've got to invest in a pair of these. They seem to be very easy to drive. I think I may need to go with low gain on my Vali 2 and Magni 3. They are a little heavy, but still comfortable. The ebony wood is, in a word, GORGEOUS. They are everything I like about my Denon AH D-2000, but taken up a notch. I'm not a basshead, but I love these cans!

luckybaerI definitely didn't need high gain on my Vali 2 or Magni 3 with these. I personally found the Magni 3 to be a better pairing with these headphones for my tastes. The Vali 2 sounded great, but the Magni 3 gave them a much cleaner and more lively sound.

RiflemanFirstI don’t have as much time in with my Magni 3 as I do with my Vali 2, but I find that the Vali 2 works exceptionally well with neutral- to bright cans and the Magni 3 with neutral- to warm cans. They both sound good with just about anything, but they really shine when paired well. A long-winded way of agreeing with you! 😃

luckybaerHow would they compare to the TH 610's if you got them?

WatsyurdealNot sure. I’ve never listened to those headphones. All I know is these things have a lot of bass - good bass, and the rest of the FR is pretty good, too (at least for my preferences). Like I said earlier - reminds me of my Denon AH-D2000, but on steroids. 😃

luckybaerSpending more time with these cans tonight. Set up as follows:
Marantz CD5003 -> Schiit [Eitr -> Mimby -> Vali 2 w/IEC Master Series 10M Tube].
Listening to plain old redbook CDs such as:
Boston (Boston) Big Country (The Crossing) Blue Oyster Cult (Agents of Fortune) Natalie Merchant (Tigerlily) Nine Inch Nails (Pretty Hate Machine)
None of these CDs are victims of the loudness war IMO. I shopped carefully and made sure I purchased releases that were not too loud and had good dynamic range.
Soundstage smaller than an open can like a DT880 or HD650. As documented, lots of bass, but good bass. Mids are more forward than with my Denon AH-D2000. Highs similar to AH-D2000, but maybe less fatiguing.
Just a really nice sounding headphone, and quite different from everything I own (exception: Denon AH-D2000).
Of course, I wish the cable were detachable, but that's nitpicking. Also, the cable, although it LOOKS identical to the one on my AH-D2000, seems to be a little easier to manage out of the box. I had to use my AH-D2000 quite a bit before the cable "softened" up a little bit. It was quite a handful out of the box.
One cause for concern: The headphones are really beautiful, and, because they are wood, I am afraid of something happening that mars the cups. So, as soon as I am done listening, I nicely coil the cable and put the cans away in the soft bag that they shipped with. I even leave the 1/4" jack dangling out of the bag out of concern it could scratch a cup if I stuffed it in the bag. I know. I know. I'm a paranoid goofball.
Anyway, this is a nice intro for me to wooden cups - improves on a sound signature I like without being so dramatically different so as to be off-putting. Well done Fostex and Massdrop.

luckybaerThese cans are some of the best if you want to basically "have a large speaker attached to your head". They can hit those lows oh so well without being a "fart cannon" :D

luckybaerI've had these for a couple of months now. My initial impressions still hold. They are really nice for a closed can - seem a tad more claustrophobic from a headroom standpoint relative to my DT770/Pro, but they are superior to that can in just about every other way. Still, though... I live in fear of something scratching the cups. So, for the most part, they are the equivalent of a "safe queen (gun collectors will know what I mean)." They stay safely in their protective sack, taken out only in my listening room, where I'll give 'em a twirl for 30-60 min before putting them carefully back into their sack (after giving them a quick wipedown). Of my closed cans, the DT770/Pro is my Jeep (go anywhere and takes punishment), the D2000 is an Acura (nice, solid, pleasant, inoffensive, but bland), and the TH-X00 is my Lambo (awesome sounding, beautiful, but high maintenance).

luckybaerSorry to revive this thread, so I currently own the Denon D2000, E-Mu Teak, and TH-X00 Mahogany. All 3 headphones all sound good in its own right but they all have different issues.
So I started with the Denon D2000 ans find it lacking mid a bit, then later on upgraded to E-Mu Teak but somehow wasn't too happy with it either so then I tried TH-X00 Mahogany and liked it better. But today I went back to the Denon D2000 thinking to listen to it before I sell it, but damn somehow I never realized this but the soundstage is huge compare to the other 2, TH-X00 Mahogany is the worst in that aspect.
I've heard other review saying TH-X00 Ebony has bigger soundstage compare to Mahogany. But how do you find the soundstage on the Ebony compare to the D2000?
I'm thinking if I should give Ebony a try or just stick to the D2000. I've been listening to it today and I forgot how much I missed the soundstage and the cleaner sound compare to the other 2.
Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks!

luckybaerOhhhh awesome, thank you!!! Though I think I've decided to buy the Ebony anyway LOL (I cave in after all the temptations) if I end up liking this best I'll sell the rest.
But I'm still curious to hear your take on this. :)
