After much thought I'm going to back out on the Fostex TH-X00 Ebony drop. I'll put my money towards some Audeze instead. I was one of the first 28 to jump on the drop but that doesn't matter much to me anymore. Hope those that get these enjoy them.

ahufNot in this drop, but care to elaborate as to why you lost interest? Thanks in advance.

ahufI auditioned the Audeze Sine with (detachable) Cipher lightning integrated DAC/inline iOS cable. It also comes with regular 3.5mm (detachable) cable. It is worth trying out if you're considering planar closed Audeze cans. They are "on ear" but some say large enough for over ear. I had a tough time choosing between Sine and Oppo PM3. PM3 also planar and I love them. Waiting on my Racoon 300 DAC/amp purchased from MD to give PM3s some tube magic. Apple stores carry Sine, you get 14 day return window. Oppo refurb PM3 is $319 full 2 year warranty, 30 day return window, mine looked brand new out of box. PM3s also come with hard case, two cables, accessory zip case, and 1/8th stereo adapter. If you are interested in planar and time it right, you can audition both simultaneously for two weeks. There is also a PM3 loaner program through head-fi. You agree to pay postage to send on to next on list after you, and take good care of them for your audition week. MD staff I'm making same suggestion: what about loaner program for some products the way head-fi does? What is the downside of letting well qualified members audition some products you know will have future drops?

WaahSo it doesn't seem just criticizing, I'd be willing to help coordinate a loaner program.
Newyorker4lifeOh, I've been eyeing those Sines as my travel for work is about to experience an uptick. Might just have to stroll into the apple store and check'em out.

WaahI'm looking for a decent pair of headphones to travel with. I purchased the Grace Designs m9xx which works extremely well for me. I travel a lot for work and stay in hotels. I don't think the Foxtex TH-x00's will be good for me while I travel. The attached cord seems it will be a nuisance. The carry case seems like a joke. I might as well spend a couple hundred more and buy some used LCD-2's. I'm also eyeing the Audeze EL-8 series. I had the Audeze Sine which I enjoyed but my wife has found use for them.

ahufI always wonder why people want over the ear headphones if they travel, take the bus/public transportation, or cubicle life. Why not look into some good IEM's? Far cheaper as well and way better for mobile use. For me, over the ear headphones are home/inside use only... but that's just me I guess.

qua2kI probably wasn't clear on what I ment by travel. I drive alone across the country. When I get to a place I can stop I like to sit down and enjoy some tunes. When I get to the job site I'll be there for about 5-9 days. I've never liked any IEM's I've ever listened to. Granted Ive never had a quality pair of IEM's. The issue of open vs closed cans is a non issue for me with where I'll use them. However with all that being said I'll take some on ear cans any day for travel. I like the comfort.

ahufI have recently got el-8 closed white box (inspected on May 26, 2016) they sound awesome with Chord Mojo. But there are a lot of bad reviews about them. Can you tell me your experience?

paruchuribrosFWIW - I don't own the EL-8's but auditioned (and returned) the Sine instead due to poor reviews of the EL-8. I understand there are some extensive owner/user reviews and impressions in the head-fi forums. I'd summarize the head-fi reviews as saying, basically, "everything Audeze got wrong about EL-8 they got right about Sine".

Newyorker4lifeOnly 1 thing I could see wrong is little lean sound stage. Other than that... they sound wonderful (maybe I have perfect set). Most detailed, nice Bass (after burning 100 hrs) and Crisp Trible. Got them sealed from Adorama as refurbished (but sealed white box) for 400$ and I believe they are worth every penny of it,

paruchuribrosI haven't had the chance to check out the EL-8 yet. I am not one to be swayed by reviews and like to try everything and make my decision then. If it sounds good to me then I'm glad to listen to it. I don't buy based on what other people like. I buy what I like. I'm reminded by an old quote from a meme I saw years ago "too many people buy things they don't need with money they don't have trying to impress people they don't even like."
