Any audiophiles here want to help out the unenlightened?
I'm looking for a DAC/AMP combo to drive these cans. But admittedly, I'm lacking in understanding. I've been doing my homework, but the more I research, the higher the ceiling seems to get on understanding good audio. I plan to get the Schiit Modi/Magni combo for these, is anyone else planning something similar? Are they a good entry level set to pair with the sound profile of these headphones? Should I be considering tube amps? Perhaps the Grace Design m9xx? Not asking for hand holding, just send me off in the right direction...
Sorry, forgot to mention. I own the Purplehearts.

CruellyricistiSupposedly the THX-00's pair well with the Grace Design M9xx . I have Schiit Modi 2 Uber with O2 Objective that I will use for my Purple Hearts. For me, it's just kind of hard to justify getting the M9XX because I already spent about $250 for this combo. Everyone says the next biggest difference in sound change is going from solid state to a tube amp but YMMV.

CruellyricistiI am running a Modi/Magni Uber myself and it is worthwhile in every regard. I really don't feel the need to spend any other absurd amounts on other DACs or amps because I don't think they offer anything above and beyond what I'm already getting at even the price point of the Uber editions.

CruellyricistiFor an excellent portable amp, it's hard to beat the Vorzuge Pure II+. Works excellent with IEMs and my 600 ohm DT880s. Makes every pair of headphones I have sound better. Even if the dac/amp I'm using has an amp(like the M9XX), throwing the Vorz on too always makes it sound even better - I use it now with EVERYTHING. Have heard several popular (portable and non portable)amps, haven't found one that sounds better.

6EQUJ5I have the M9XX, and it's the best dac/amp I have. The amp part of it is a bit weak so it's good to have another amp between it and the headphones, but the sound from it is EXCELLENT - super clear and full of body. That said, I do not yet have a tube amp - I'm still trying to decide which one to get in round about the $500 range. Must be powerful enough to do 600 ohms at 75-80% of volume.

CruellyricistiI own the mahogany and run it on a magni/modi stack and they sound great. I also plug them in to an asus xonar u3 at work and they still sound really good. I'd say get a fio or schiit stack and you'll be more than fine.
