Like this comment if you REALLY REALLY would like to see an "Massdrop x Grace Design Standard DAC Balanced PLUS", with the following specs: - A little bit lower distortion (i.e probably use a top-shelf AKM chip). SOTA distortion would be nice! - A bit higher SNR. SOTA SNR would be nice! - No pops at startup, shutdown, sample-rate-changes, etc, at all - Price: < $350 - Matching design to the Massdrop THX 798 headphone amp. - USB and AES3 / SPDIF input
Basically, the perfect dac to match the Massdrop THX 789 headphone amp.

pospos@Michael_Grace It should change the game (like the THX 789 headphone amp did), and set a new standard for affordable quality DACs! So: << NSDAC >> New Standard DAC

rajaprukHell yeah! Please no ES DACs please. AK or something would be preferable!

rajapruk100%with you on that. I got Massdrop THX 789 headphone amp. and now i need a DAC to match it.Massdrop x Airist Audio R-2R DAC is looking good but it's unbalnced :(

ScreamerRStay away from R-2R dacs if you want state-of-the-art measured performance, I would say.

rajaprukMost importantly than the DAC chip itself, the implementation, so an AKM or ESS without faults like the IMD Hump seen on the ESS9038 (non Pro version) or relatively low SINAD (High THD+N) on some AKM implementations. Hopefully >110 SINAD, descending IMD, 20 bit or better linearity, no problems in ultrasonics, low jitter, nice 32 tone test graph, and so on. :)

caguilar91For sure! Minimal functionality and maximal measured performance (that is possible to do within the price-bracket) is what I want to mate to my THX789:s.

rajaprukThey should make it the same size as airist throw a 4493/4495/4497 etc. or a set of dual burr brown chips which often get overlooked. Add RCA, optical and I'd probably throw my money at it.
