This is a cheap, quite good DAC. It is, I would say on the drier, flatter, more analytic side. I compared it against Airist R2R in detail, and won half the time. For the price that's quite good, and if I could only have one DAC, I'd take this one over the Airist, because it's safer. Just a solid, good deal. Sounds especially good with the MTCH, by the way.
Audio quality is the best you can get at the price point. Unfortunately the device will intermittently disconnect. Sometimes unplugging it and plugging it back in will fix the problem, other times it will stay connected from 30 seconds to 5 minutes and disconnect again. Every time this happens the audio will not return to the program I was running unless I close the program and restart it. Meaning either I am forced to restart the game/program I am running every couple minutes or disconnect the dac completely. Would like to recommend but until this is fixed I cant.
This product didn't blow me away in terms of performance or features but what I love about it is it's ease of use. There are other products in this range that similar perfomance with more features, but the plug and play nature of the SDAC makes it ideal for basic set-ups.
A really good size for someone new like me, and also how smooth it looks.
If anything I would prefer one more alternate output for expansion purposes but its definitely good for its price!
This is my first review of an item that I ordered from Drop (formerly Massdrop).
I received this item a couple of weeks ago and I am very pleased that I ordered this DAC and it's a massive improvement from my current DAC (hifimediy dac).
I tested this with my active speakers, HD600 and K7XX and now they sound is more fuller and enjoyable.
Upgraded from a rev 1 ODAC/O2 combo to the SDAC. Using it with a Little dot MK II and a Little dot MK III, MASSIVE difference. (I'm plugging into the ODAC's input).
not a huge difference between SDAC and Dragonfly Red(used a dac) in conjunction with my tube amps. Can defiantly hear the DFR through the tubes, but it's not necessarily a bad thing.
Amazing product for the entry level price range! Working in Ableton sounds much cleaner now. Currently using DT770s and DT990s with an entry-level amp that I found on Amazon and I couldn't be happier for what I can afford at this point. Thanks Grace Designs!
