I have the Schiit Modi2 Uber. I would guess there would be some subjective differences between Modi and the new Grace DAC, and you would have to put them side by side and do careful, level matched comparisons between the two to accurately hear the difference. Both are well developed by well known, world class engineers with great reputations. At this price point, you probably won't go wrong with either. Ii you need optical or coax digital inputs, then the Modi2 Uber is the obvious choice. If you just use USB, either one would probably make you happy. Is one "better" than the other? Maybe, maybe not. Only you could make that judgment. The Grace DAC is slightly less money. If that matters to you, the Grace DAC may be the best choice, especially if you want something that looks like your other equipment.
If you want to dramatically (seriously) improve the sound of your equipment, my Modi Multibit is fabulous compared to my Modi 2 Uber, but it is $250.00. YMMV My Modi 2 Uber is doing duty in my woodworking shop after listening to the Multibit for a while.

tgh33 I'm sensitive to an effect most people call "digital glare." It is hard to explain, but to me it sounds like a shimmering veil over the music. The difference is, with well recorded music, and in full resolution wave or flac (16/44), everything sounds cleaner and more clear. Another effect is that the soundstage is wider, instruments and voices appear more "correctly" and accurately placed. It is the difference between a fuzzy patch of sound with a larger area, and tightly placed point images if that is what the recording engineer meant to do. Every frequency benefits, the bass is tighter and more controlled, the mids are sweet and clean, and the highs are sharp and clean without adding any sibilance. Just better overall. The math and science behind the Schiit multibit technology is fascinating, not so say I come close to understanding it all, but it works. Modi Multibit is the bottom of the range at $250. The sound quality goes up from there, or so I have been given to understand. If you can't hear the difference, or you like the way the old technology sounds, then you don't need to spend the money. If you are using mid-fi headphones or speakers, you are likely to miss the difference as well. These are only my opinions, your mileage may, and probably will, vary.

tgh33AKG K702 (neutral), Sennheiser HD700, (flawed but fun with some music). I like the speakers on my desktop better: 6" Tang Band drivers in open baffles, 6 watt class A monoblocks, absolutely spectacular, the signature is a lot like the K702, but the spaciousness and detail are off the chart. I can easily tell the difference between DACs with my Sennheiser HD280 which is a closed back headphone used in a lot of music studios for vocal tracking because of how well they isolate and how sturdy they are, but sound wise they are sadly lacking. No, I don't spend cubic megabucks on audio; I stop when I can't wipe the smile off my face. Non-multibit DACs, at least the ones I'm willing to blow the money on, just don't do it for me. I know such things get better, and you can spend stupid, new car money on that stuff, I just don't need to do that. Chord Dave lists for like $15k, and others triple that amount, and more. If I had more money I would go ahead and buy the new Grace DAC because I have heard nothing but good things about Grace and it may be fun to try it out. It may be really good, I just don't have any way to tell yet, and I already have enough stuff laying around. I'll bet Head-fi has reviews before the drop ends.

jersey_boyYes. The last time i looked, the kits were out of stock. Fabulous sound, lousy specs, no damping factor, high 2nd order harmonic distortion, cheap switching ps, ya gotta love papa Nelson. They just sound good!! Magic.
