Does it work straight from an iPad or iPhone using the Apple USB lightning CCK adapter? An answer to this question will decide if I join or not the drop...

tessierpgYou will need a 3.5mm to micro USB adapter

CokemanNo. A CCK adapter (Apple Lightning to USB). By the way the drop includes a USB to micro USB adapter. My question is more related to the capacity for the iPhone or iPad to power the SDAC, in the same way a Dragonfly Red or Black may be powered by the iPhone or iPad using the CCK adapter (which transmits both the data and electric power to the DAC).
tessierpgThe SDAC will work with an iOS device using the CCK. However, the circuitry in the SDAC requires more current than the phone will provide so you would need a powered hub. Unfortunately there is no free lunch when it comes to high performance analog and digital circuits!

Michael_GraceThank you for the answer. So I understand that a small powered hub with the CCK will do the trick. Thanks.
LlikeLWe have not tested the SDAC with this but we will get one for the lab and check it out... -Michael

LlikeLThe hyperlink proposed is for the lightning to USB CCK from Apple, the USB3 version, that can be used with all recent iPhones and iPads. The USB-C adapter is something else, which can be used for example with the newer Macbook Pros. Do not confuse both adapters.

Michael_GracePlease do. USB-C compatibility with newer Macbook Pros and USB3 CCK compatibility with iPhones/iPads is something important for many future SDAC users.
Have you specificly tested SDAC compatibility with iPhones and iPads using together the Apple USB3 CCK with a self powered USB Hub as you suggested?
Have you specificly tested SDAC compatibility with USB-C devices such as the newer Mackbook Pros using the appropriate USB-C to micro-usb adapters?
Thank you in advance for the clarification. I already commited to this SDAC drop and want to be sure that I may use the device in both the above input configuration (and using the Massdrop O2 that I already own).
Best regards,

Michael_GraceI am looking forward too. Also, how do you use a powered usb hub?
tessierpgWe have the USB 3 CCK on the way and will also verify with USB C MacBooks. Being a USB Audio Class compliant device it should work with any USB port.

tessierpgTo be a little bit more specific about the adapter: It ends with a lightning connection (for iphones etc) and has both, a female USB type A and a female USB type C connection on the other end. My understanding is that you can provide power through the USB C connection while simultaneously having for example an iPhone (via lightning) connected to some device such as a DAC (via USB type A). If this works one could at least save the USB hub bulk in the setup. Looking forward to hear more from Michael about it.
LlikeLHi All, We have tested the SDAC with both Apple CCK adapters and have found that they both work as expected. For the older CCK, Model A1440, you will need a powered USB hub to provide power to the SDAC. For the newer USB3 CCK, Model A1619, no USB hub is necessary. Simply connect the CCK to a USB charger via the Lightning connector, connect to the phone/ipad, then plug in the SCAC to the USB A connector on the CCK. This is a nice clean setup that powers the DAC *and* charges your phone! There are other units out there on Ebay, Amazon, etc. that are less expensive than the Apple but we have not tested them. Cheers, Michael
tessierpgWe tested the SDAC with a newer MacBook Pro using a USB C to micro B cable. No problems. It should work with any computer with a USB C connector. -Michael

Michael_GraceThis should imply that the dac also works with Android devices. CCK usb 3 is comparble to a splitter with a micro usb and a usb type A outputs.
