Oh look yay, yet another freaking USB DAC trying to enter the market. Am I supposed to act excited or what?

Twerk02Yes, because it is apparently better than the ODAC for almost half the price.

CokemanYeah what a deal... they stick a $4 DAC chip into a black box and charge $80, and everyone proclaims it the bargain of the century. Please, man of coke.

Twerk02 Yes fair point I’ll just buy that then go have a custom circuit board made then I’ll get out a specialized soldering kit and solder this bad boy onto that board and then I’ll solder on my RCAs and usb plug, then ill go and CNC myself out a case and then I’ll go have it powder coated. Thank you sir you just saved me all that money. Dude WTF? You couldn’t sound like more of an ignorant asshole with that comment. Tell you what next time you go and get a hamburger why don't instead of you paying McDonalds $1 for a McDouble you go and kill a cow, cut it up, ground up its meat, then cook it. Then go and grow some wheat, grind it up into flower, then go milk a cow and make some butter, then go and raise some chickens to get some eggs, then you can make your bun. Then go grow yourself some vegetables to cut up to put on it, then go and grow yourself some tomatoes and distill some vinegar to make your ketchup. Then your cost of goods used will be far less than $1 and you saved yourself a ton on this bargain burger everyone was talking about.

CokemanI am an ignorant asshole indeed! Good catch on that one, mate.
Just note that McDonalds charges a dollar for all that work you mentioned above!
Massdrop charges 80 for sticking the DAC in the box and wiring it up. My problem is with the price. How about they charge 30 bucks instead of 80? Bring us some value here vs the competition!
The Modi 2 sells for $99 new, also with an AKM chip inside it. $80 is no big deal, babe.

Twerk02$80 is less than $99, in case you hadn't noticed.

CokemanThe absolute worst is rent/housing.
900 bucks minimum rent a month for a 1 BD where I live. It's crazy, just for a small room with a roof.
All our advanced 21st century technology can't figure out a way to give us affordable roofs.

Twerk02I would strongly suggest you take a class in economics before you complain about stuff like this.

CokemanOh I took my economics courses buddy, micro and macro.
Supply and demand may determine that price we pay but it doesn't change the fact that it's all a huge pile of shit.

CokemanThe price will of course be whatever the market will bear, regardless of how much it costs to make. This is especially true of pure luxury items, like this DAC. Many of the things we buy cost next to nothing to produce, especially when China and other ultra-low labor costs get involved. And I do see that "Made In China" sticker prominently displayed on the back of this thing.

KJ741NWell, It's not selling well as priced currently. Maybe we will see the price go down since t's really not getting much sales.

KJ741NWell it's not selling very well at all, so perhaps we will see that price fall if they need to sell more units.

Twerk02It's not selling well because of the ship date

CokemanPrice, ship date, competition, unnecessary, bad looking, 4 Dollar Dac chip, made in China, its own unpopularity, people tired of the hype train that follows with each new release, etc.

TWerk1. Price is good. 2. Ship date I agree with. 3. Competition, I give you half credit on, a Modi 2 is it's closest competitor but after shipping the Modi 2 is $40 more than this. 4. Not the best looking DAC ever, but does a ODAC look any better? 5. One of the dumbest comments you could ever make. Please refer to this thread of comments for a more in depth look at that. ( https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-grace-design-standard-dac/talk/1802710?utm_source=linkshare&referer=58XQC5 ) 6. What do you mean, "It's own unpopularity"? 7. IDK what hype you are talking about. This thing isn't that hyped, not even close to something like the HD6XXs.

CokemanYou disagree about the DAC chip comment. Whatever dude. 80 is a ripoff to spend on a DAC. Why? I have Macbook and it has BUILT IN DAC that sounds great just like my iphone!
It's own unpopularity,,. Because it's selling bad, people aren't as interested. When things are hot sellers and they are moving like hotcakes, the high demand encourages people to buy so they don't miss out.
You asked for reasons, there are plenty even if you don't agree. Not everyone will agree on all reasons but each person may not buy because of one of them.
Whatever the case, it's not selling a lot of units so people aren't buying for some reason! The shipping date is just one possibility you know.

Twerk02Ok I have to ask you, the built in DAC on your MacBook sounds great compared to what? Have you tried a good DAC? Because you might not know what "great" sounds like.

CokemanI tried ODAC, I liked macbook better, ODAC is harsh and grating while macbook is smooth sounding and not harsh. I had RSA product (predator) which sounded fine but was way overpriced! VERY similar sound to Macbook. I had fiio e10k, sold because macbook sounded better to me. Had Matrix m stage with built in dac which hissed, so it was annoying. Had Audeze deckard which sounded fine, but again, way too expensive and chunky. Tried Ifi micro IDSD, not worth it to me. None of them felt worth it. Plus it's easier to just plug into your device than need to have this setup. I would rather buy efficent headphones and run right into my laptop which I use.

CokemanI agree with everything Ken Rockwell says in his review of IPHONE 5 sound quality. Please see introduction section and summary section at the end.
Specifically, he says, "the iPhone 5 is a wonderful high-fidelity audio source. While publications funded mostly by advertisements from makers of expensive cables, power conditioners and outboard DACs don't want you to know this, the iPhone 5 is a better audio source than most DACs will be when connected to a computer or CD transport."
http://www.kenrockwell.com/apple/iphone-5/audio-quality.htm
Apple's audio products sound fantastic. On head-fi, someone made a thread that he couldn't tell any difference between a CHORD HUGO and an Iphone headphone output, which says it all.

CokemanFunny part is that new Macbooks and iPhones don't even have an audio output anymore.
