vampyThis is what I'm trying to figure out too. From the Massdrop schedule post it looks like we can expect another O2 amp drop before the end of the year and it will stack nicely with the SDAC. But I'm wondering if I should cancel my SDAC separate and just get the SDAC/O2 combo. My only concern is that I would like to have the option to run powered speakers from the SDAC and so maybe it would be better to have them separate so I can have one output of the SDAC going to the speakers and the other SDAC output going to the O2 amp for headphones. Anyone have thoughts on this?

DBroI would prefer separate for reasons you stated. If you get combo I am not sure if sdac can output to headphone jack and speakers at same time, or only one at a time. It just so happens that I already own the mayflower O2 so buying separate anyways. But ya, the SDAC is technically portable besides size, if you get the O2 separate it might include the battery contacts to be used portable too although size would be ridiculous with both.

datyetiI hadn't thought about portability...but of course that makes sense. I'm thinking of sticking with separate. Thanks for your input! I'm guessing the cost will be pretty much the same and while it'll take up a little more room, it will give me a little more flexibility with powered speakers/portability.

DBroYour welcome. Originally the Objective was meant to be a portable amp IIRC. If you read nwavguy's blog he goes over it. Idk if massdrop O2 has the battery contacts or not, or even if mayflower/jds do as well, would have to email. I have been trying to find a semi flexible/stiff band so I can stack them and not have them move. Think of DAP bands with portable amps, no luck yet.

datyetiI believe that the o2/SDAC combo can also be used with portable speakers at the same time as having it hooked up to your computer. Seeing as the SDAC is built in to the combo unit, one technically doesn’t need two outputs as the standalone SDAC has. The RCA on the back of the combo unit is an input/output depending on wether the USB cable is plugged in or not. So assuming you use the SDAC side of the combo and keep the USB cable plugged in, then you can plug your speakers up with the RCA jacks on the back. I hope that makes sense.

BenGeldreichOh I wasn't sure if it would work that way. Thanks for clearing that up.
