Adding on to my reply - subjectively but also very much correlating with the technology - planat magnetic headphones (and to some extent their loudspeaker counterparts) have a very crisp clear sound, with excellent mids and more often better base than electrostatics. Good electrostatics often have clearer treble (some planars at the lower end have sibilance in my experience), but the better planars have amazing treble in my experience. Since this post is about the HiFiMan Edition XX - I have these (and Koss Electrostatics) - and the HiFiMans are considerably better throughout. I would say they are my end game for now - until my financial status changes ;-).
