is the edition xx to the he1000 as the hd6xx is to the hd650? also I see comments with people complaining about the head band. I agree the he1000 style looks cooler, but I haven’t had any issues with my he4xx headband.

DavestefNo. XX is derived from X V2. See the graphs posted. I have the Edition X V2. The best headphones I have. Just amazing sound if you are not a bass head. Bass has slam and it goes quite deep but it is not as tight as f.ex. HE-400i. Otherwise much better in every way compared to HE-400i.

djfluffkinsHifiman HE-400i, AKG K701, Philips Fidelio X2 and closed AKG K550 mk I & Denon AH-MM400. Compared to HE-400i less bass slam and not quite as tight (is close IMO though) but more detail, more air between instruments, more balanced and refined. It’s been a long while that I last listened to K701s but here goes compared to K701 detail is there but it is not as ”in your face”, more bass impact and less pronounced treble, more balanced and refined. My hearing is not as good as it used to be because of some tinnitus (of course) and my age and I have never been very good at analysing sound... I just know what I like when I hear it. F.ex. Etymotic ER3XRs are just awesome IMO so I like neutral sound I guess. I am not fond of bloated bass, I want it tight and not masking midrange etc.
