I just received my Massdrop X Hifiman XX edition. Very minimal packaging, Very minimal cable with 3.5 connector, different from 2.5 connector used for 4XX. So my Balanced cables ready for XX was not good. What a problem. My headphones Amps are both balanced and i had just half hour with XX with basic cable and unbalanced output. Not the best at all.

RocfortI agree with you about the cable; it is too short, the loose sleeve seems shoddy, but the connectors are nice and of good quality. Drop favors short cables on all their headphones, some of us are not tied to our desks but listen in more comfortable places and these short cables are a pain. Check out Arctic Cables and Periapt Cables for some reasonably priced well made cable alternatives. Both of these companies feature the 2.5 connectors to the earcups for the HiFiMan HE 4XX and the 3.5 connectors for the Edition XX and all newer HiFiMan headphones. The Edition XXs deserve a good cable.

RocfortWhat your overall opinion on the XX? Do the older symmetrical magnet structure do justice to the $600 price tag?

shoaibexpertI like this headphone. But I'm a basshead and this XX have a great bass. Are perfect with EDRM and with modern Jazz like R+R=NOW, Anchorsong and Makaya McCraven. I used two cable: one with monocrystal silver and a Cardas Audio Clear. With the silver cable the sound is open and clear with well defined bass. With the Cardas the sound is a bit darker and close, but bass are fantastic, deep and vibrant.

LowFi42I believe they have Symmetrical magnet array. Don't know which one is better but all new HiFiMan products have Asymmetrical design.
