Yay, another bright and artificial sounding headphone I do not like, subjectively. Also, the cable is the worst quality headphone cable I have ever seen. This is not OK for a $600 headphone. Cheap Sennheisers sound better because they are more neutral.

Leviathan2210My HD 650's and HD 660 S's are neutral sounding. They are considered dark by audiophiles, but they are not dark at all.

FuckHead-FiI mean, there's literally objective neutrality, that can't be argued, you can subjectively not like the sound of neutrality and that's fine. It sounds like legitimately neutral headphones would still be too bright for you, and that's fine. I like dark headphones too.

ChalkballNope, there is no objective neutrality. No one agrees on what sounds neutral.

ChalkballI guess the better argument here is everyone is entitled to their own opinions? We tried.

LouisXYou tried to argue that headphones are not subjective. You failed because headphones are subjective.

FuckHead-FiObjective neutrality refers to measurements. You cannot argue a measured scientific value as long as it was verifiably measured correctly. How you percieve this objective measured neutrality is what is subjective. And therein is what this whole hobby is about. 1. Subjective Perception and the enjoyment of sound 2. Engineering Excellence and Innovation. You cannot have this hobby without both concepts existing simultaneously because we are ultimately dealing with technology and biology at the same time. That being said, take it easy man. We can have a conversation about this without anyone having to get rude or dismissive. Have a great day ok?

FuckHead-FiStill crapping threads on drop, gotta love it. I enjoy the 650 too and all but jesus, it's definitely not what I'd call neutral.

Stefan2305The whole question is what is neutral. Recording sound created in studio and concert then replicating in headphones is not "objective."

JoeBiWell, because the objective neutrality refers to a goal of engineering and physics, it refers to matching the original recording and what the artist intended without any change or coloration. The concept, is very much objective - match source to listening 1:1. This however, is essentially impossible for a lot of reasons (different equipment, listening environments, limits in power in each frequency [which is why multi-driver heaphones exist by the way], the capabilities of equipment itself, formats (with DSD256 you're pretty darn close to analog master tapes though - which is why many mastering studios have adopted it), etc. This, however, doesn't mean that we can't try to get as close as possible and continuously push the limits of human ingenuity and innovation to overcome these challenges. And that's what this engineering mastery and innovation thing is about. Constantly pushing to make better and better products. On that journey, we get to discover the biological side of the equation, which is our subjective nature as humans and what we CAN hear and WANT to hear. But this is where I also want to add something that contributes, and that is that music is not just about "hearing." It's also about feeling. From a physical perspective with sound pressure affecting our bodies in inaudible ways, to an emotional perspective where sound affects affects our psyches in varying ways, all dependent on context. Funny enough, most of this can be measured, but none of us are really sitting in an anechoic chamber with probes all over our bodies and having biologists, psychologists, neurologists, etc measuring all of our responses.

Stefan2305Several times I've changed my mind about headphones. I don't have great earphones, and have been happy with the BVGP DMG with foam tips. But I listened to a song with different ones and went back and finally noticed that too much of the treble/mids were missing just because I want to avoid a spike. Sometimes I think varying amounts of earwax are to blame; I'm grasping at straws but don't know why I turn against headphones. I don't think I want to hear my kickarounds E3000 or KC09 again despite several EQ profiles for each. At least I don't hate them like the V6/7506.

robo24I don't think they are close to being too warm, and for me the treble and mids are quite good (no sibilanc), especially with the MD CTH. I found aspects a bit grating with the Schitt Magni 3. They'd be perfect with more sub bass and a wider and taller soundstage. Is there a headphones like that?
