I have listened to these for several months so my opinion should be valid. I have them connected with Tos link optical from my iMac to my schiit lyr2 hybrid tube amp and bifrost multibit dac. I am also using Bongiovi DPS realtime audio enhancement with bass emphasis. To me they are warm and lush. To be fair Schiit audio's equipment has a great bias towards warmth and lush sound in the mind range and bass. They were a little bright when I got them. They toned down after the first week. They don't have super deep bass but it is not distorted. Sound stage is great and the mid range is great. Live instruments are great. I have only heard better more accurate on elctrostats. I have no other mods yet. I think these would straight suck without mid price to high price amplification and dedicated DAC period. If you don't have a good setup don't bother. Tube amps or hybrid tube amps are your best bet. They tame the tremble and add mid range and bass lushness. Some EQ or an optimal sound processor like DPS certainly would help. I find DPS makes a noticeable improvement period. I have rarely found a headphone out of the box that ever sounds good with out a dedicated amp and dac. If you plug them straight into your computer or phone and play them for 5 minutes yes they will suck period. Again a subjective review listening to these every day since the very first drop. I find they sound similar to my TH600 stock with similar amp and dac. Of course the TH600 have more bass detail however with the same or similar equipment they sound similar. It is not surprising listening to a lot of headphones on the same equipment they are very close. What I am saying is amplification and a DAC makes more of a difference than most people realize or will admit. Under the right conditions these can sound really great. I have auditioned Most LCD headphones from Audeze both Focal Utopia and Elear and lost of others including most stax.
