This was my first can from massdrop, bought it through a friend (forwarder, cause I live in Asia), as my secondary can beside ATH M50X. Got the HE-350 burned in for around 2 weeks, still nothing compared to the M50X. So I sold it and bought another drop which is the AKG K553, no need for a burn in, the sound quality is already replacing my M50X as my daily can. Just need a little bit of mod, make the cable detachable, voila! So if I can suggest;
For EDM lover go with M50X
For other than EDM go with K553
For somebody who wants to annoy others go with HE-350.
Not necessarily a bad can, but between these three, doesn't stand a chance.
Our opinions differ here... But I can understand why you would prefer a closed back as they offer thumping bass.
The M50X have been my daily driver for years, but ever since I got the HE 350, it has been in the box collecting dust until I decide to sell them.
To me, the HE 350 have amazing clarity in the treble, excellent sound stage and imaging but a little recessed bass. Vocal clarity is amazing.
The M50X are amazing and do some of the best sound for the price. But they have a narrow sound stage. Music as though comes to you from the front, all at once. The other thing is I think the M50X have a rather V pattern sound signature that enhances treble and bass together compared to the HE350.
I sold my HE350 not only because of the bass, also sometimes the treble is too much for me. I did the same with my M50X, now it's on its box (not collecting dust, cause i like to clean my room once in a while), after I bought the K553. I believe sound is a subjective matters, and for me the K553 has the best balance of these three (even from most cans I've tried under 150)
Ya I dunno how good are the K553. Nondetachable cable is a deal breaker to me.
