Great headphones!
I don`t have much to compare it to, just some low-end headphones like Superlux HD-330 (with Brainwavz sheep leather earpads), Urbanfun HiFi and Xiaomi Piston 3, and Hifiman sound much clearer than any of them. I also have 5.1 speaker set Mordaunt Short Avant 9xx on Yamaha RX-475 receiver which is closest to the sound of these headphones, but Hifiman HE4xx has clearer bass. They sound great, clear, and with proper amplification the bass is strong, yet clear, not muddy at all. Bought them for singleplayer games, rock and metal. Very satisfied, apart from the realization that I need to upgrade my MP3 collection to FLAC. Comfort could be better, they are pretty heavy, but nothing that would bother you for the first hour or two after a few minutes getting used to them, and I`m slowly getting used to them for longer sessions. Just make sure you can feed them properly. From common phone bass is severely lacking. From my integrated soundcard with headphone amplifier in my PC (Realtek ALC 1220 on Gigabyte Z270 Gaming K3 motherboard) the sound was great and bass was finally strong, I would definitely be happy with them. But I thought it was lacking somewhat in clarity and could be better (sound was clearer without integrated headphone amplifier, but bass was lacking so I had to use integrated amplifier with Gain 3 and then the sound was less clear), so I bought Topping NX4DSD headphone DAC&AMP and the sound is now amazing. Bonus points that even lowly Piston 3 now sounds better with Topping :)
