Purchased when it was 200usd, first one arrived with right channel dead, RMAd..got one that works perfectly. however, I am not too found of the sound. The other headphones I own: (Sony Ma900 and DT770 250ohm, beat the HE4xx in every category, granted I got the Dt770 after the Hifimans, I absolutely regret getting these by buying into the hype...anyway here is a comparison of sorts. Bass: No contest here. DT770 are in a whole different weight class, the punch, the low end extension is just insane (eventhough the 250ohm is supposed to be less bassy than 80ohm..but still, it extends low and its fast) and the HE4xx sounds anemic in the low end. The ma 900, eventhough not extending as low(sub bass roll off) has enough hump in the mid and upper bass to give low notes much much more body than HE4XX. So for bass: DT770 250ohm>Sony Ma900>HE4xx. Mids: DT770s are supposed to be U shaped, yet I couldn't find the HE4xx to have a fleshed out midrange in comparison, it sounded hollow and lacking body. ma900 is the best out of the three with full bodied mids and a full sound signature, great with male vocals. mids: ma900>dt770=he4xx treble: Dt770 is again known for its sparkly treble, and Hifiman again falls short here as it doesnt extend as high, it is however slightly better than ma900 with its subdued upper range. Dt770>He4xx>ma900 Soundstage: I thought getting open cans would mean a huge soundstage..right? wrong. there is barely any,,,instruments are cramped together and its not really great for games. Infact I find the soundstage narrower or about equal to Dt770 which has a huge soundstage for closed cans. ma900s are king here..with a massive soundstage. ma900>dt770>HE4xx Imaging: Dt770 rules here again, with accurate placement of sound signatures. these are now my go to cans for gaming and movies. Watch the Lone Survivor jungle ambush scene with a good dac amp ( I have the xduoo xd-05) and you will be blown away with how accurately it places gun fire throughout the scene and how everything is placed with pinpoint accuracy. ma 900s are also great here with a cinema hall like affect. HE4xx although deliver good a fast gun fire and explosion sounds, dont really offer anything above and beyond my other two cans. Dt770>ma900>HE4xx putting them on kijiji

Syed1337You need a good headphone amplifier my friend. I owned both the DT770 (32 and 80 ohm) and the HE4XX. The Hifiman is a class higher / better headphone IMO.

xduoo can power upto 300 ohm headphones. I get that their seisitivity isnt that great, but I was able to push a lot of volume. I dont see how a more powerful amp can improve the imaging and precision of these cans.

DorienBdt770 250 ohm is considerably better in clarity imaging soundstage than their lesser ohm versions.

Syed1337I owned DT990 250 ohm and DT880 600 ohm too. I really loved this latter but HE4XX was better for me. The head amp was a Sense V1.

Hmm..interesting. to me compared to dt 770 250 ohm,he4xx seemed less sure footed, lacking in speed an detail. On tidal, listening to no time for caution and mountains (interstellar soundtrack) the difference showed. beyers were able to handle the dynamics without losing imaging precision, he4xx although sounded big and powerful (everything was presented with a blended in signature). Listening to inta hayati (massari), the sub bass in the beginning was much more well defined and tighter in the beyers than in the hifimans. bass although fast lacked presence and extension. Watching lonesurvivor, forest gunfight scene or Fury (first tank battle) again showed the imaging differences. With the Beyers you could trace every bullet across your skull, Hifimans although impactful, you couldnt pick apart every detail.
