Product Description
Many headphone companies have tried their hand at planar magnetic drivers, but none have done it quite like HIFIMAN. The result of founder Dr. Fang’s PhD research at Columbia University, its driver technology has landed the company in TIME, Forbes, and CNET’s “The Audiophiliac,” and won it the CES Editors’ Choice Award ... These will run on most phones pretty well. The atom will be PPPLENTY of power for them. I run them on an iphone x, a fiio e17k, or an emotiva a100. The phone is a little anemic, but both amps make the he4xx sing. The atom is a beast and will be more than enough juice.

I'm not certain, but I believe the 4xx is a 400i with a shorter cable and definitely a different headband. I asked the same question myself a few days ago. Would be happy to hear a definitive answer. I'm tempted to buy the drop as the band+strap look of the 400i is too retro for me.

Selling my HE4XX's with custom modded cable that has mini xlr split to allow pigtail for balanced or SE use. Including extra set of ZMF Ori Lambskin Pads on extra mounting rings. Selling on Head-Fi forum if anyone is interested. They are in great shape, no slipping screws or popped out insert issues. $180

Which HIFI man model does this correspond to? I see HE400i, HE400s available on Amazon, both at ~180 and HE180 is listed as priced at $299, but unavailable. Thanks.

Hey guys! I did a quick little review of the HE-4XX with detailed sound description. Maybe it helps some of You to decide if these are the right headphones for You. I'm in the EU and after custom fees it was like 250$ but I still think it's worth it! https://youtu.be/6gX3RFDU710

Anyone know of a good source for some Braided cables that are about 1 or 2 feet longer than the cords that come with these? for those that are curious the cord that comes with the HE4XX's is fine I just need a longer cable and prefer braided anyways.

Yes, because the HE4XX has the exact design of H400 which is precedes H400i. Spec wise, though, all 3 are almost identical. If the shipping is immediate, though, I guess it doesn't make huge difference where you get them. Last drop I was part of it was quite a bit of wait. I'd still go for H400i's for the band design.

So, many of you have been on the fence about whether to buy The HD58X or the HD6XX, even the HE4XX. One of the most reliable ways to make a decision is to listen to the HPs themselves, but many don’t have access to these models -especially since the HD58X and HE4XX are not exactly like their retail counterparts in sound quality or design, don’t go to meets/shows, or have acquaintances that can let you audition their gear. For those in such a situation, reviews and measurements become vital to a decision making process, especially accurate and to-the-point information. The problem with reviews is that sometimes reviewers feel obligated to favorably review units that were sent to them, or that the reviewer wishes to continue receiving perks or kickbacks for positive reviews. Another problem to worry about is the unit sent to the reviewer might vary greatly from what the consumer is able to purchase. This happens even at shows and demos, as was the case with Tyll in one of his reviews. One way to curtail the majority of these problems is to purchase what the consumer has access to and to test the unit with no obligations to a manufacturer or distributor. This is where RTINGS.com excels. Many of you already know the site and reference it before making purchases. If you’re interested in seeing another independent and objective review of the HD58X, they are running a poll. The review could provide better insight into the performance of the HD58X, helping you and others in your decision making process. As Drop stated, the HD6XX is identical to the HD650 in sound signature and the HE4XX is based on the HE400i, but with cosmetic and sound signature tweaks. If anything else, you’ll find a different unit you want to upvote for review. They do not accept review units from manufacturers or distributors; they buy all their units on their own. The link for the poll will be below: https://www.rtings.com/headphones/suggestions

Hey everyone, Wanted to give you a quick heads up. The new price for the Massdrop x HIFIMAN will be $180 (original price $170) starting tomorrow (April 18th). As some of you may know, the prices on some of our Massdrop Made products are increasing. For a little more information on why you can go here (https://www.massdrop.com/talk/21735/pricing-update), but the short of it is that costs have increased over time and we launched some items at a lower price point in exchange for early exposure. Know that we’re doing other things to reward your early support, however, through new Launch pricing on newly introduced Massdrop Made products. Thanks for your understanding, feedback and support.

Yeah there's no mic, but if your mic is attached to your headphones then you can't use it without wearing those headphones. Sometimes I want to chat but don't want to wear headphones. I use the Blue Snowball Ice on a boom. You can get it pretty cheap in an amazon sale (£35 + boom for £10). It's cheaper than the regular Blue Snowball because it only has one listening mode (cardoid only), and you can't monitor your voice. Having used the Sennheiser PC360 for years I can confirm that a separate mic is much more convenient than an attached mic, long term.

I want a dedicated pair of headphones to use for gaming only. I've been using my Sennheiser HD 6xx with my pc hooked to a Liquid Spark Headphone Amplifier by Alex Cavalli. I use a software equalizer to try to add what the 6xx seems to be missing but ready to try something new for games trying to decide between this and the Sennheiser 58x Jubilee any opinions from someone that own both?

The best gaming headphone out there is the akg 7xx due to the soundstage, depth, EQ friendly drivers, and easy to mod cable. The mini xlr is annoying but honestly I prefer using a real microphone. Seinheisers are not good for gaming because they don't do positional audio or Atmos/Sonic well. They have good imaging but are narrow compared to most cans.

Doesn't come with a mic but I highly recommend the modmic 4 or 5 or they even have a wireless one now. I have the 5 it works better than any mic I've had especially compared to "gaming headphones" mics.

All prices on Massdrop are USD. Custom fees and import tax, if you are outside the U.S, have not been factored into the cost of these headphones.
