Tyll at InnerFidelity says the 4XX are more refined and less forward and strident than the M1060s which I already own. Z Reviews say the M1060s are better than pretty much every HiFiMan and are only inferior to Stax and LCD-X. I love the 1060 though they have a slight metallic sound but this might in part be because my ears are so adjusted to the HD650s. The 4XX has an awesome price but it seems like it will be a better priced 400i with a better build. Why spend $169 on a headphone that doesn't necessarily beat what I already have?

The answer is: don't spend $169 on something that isn't an improvement, unless you're a collector.
Edit: I should elaborate, that I ordered the 6XXs after the 1060 because they are so popular. I basically paid $200 to hear what all the fuss is about, lol. Similar with the T-X0, I ordered due to scarcity and hype.
So, TL;DR, order as an improvement, or due to peer pressure, or due to hype, or to collect/hoard. I don't have any of those impulses with these cans.

If you already have HE400i or any 400 series and you love them, there is no point in getting these HE400i, unless your a collector.
Hopefully you did not over pay on anything your already have, sell what you don't like/need and keep your best headphone. Then after selling everything else, maybe consider M1060 if your looking for a possible improvement over your best headphone. Or wait until there is a good cheap electrostatic headphones (ex: stax).
